Getting married soon and talking about a new little kiddo addition to start our new family. Thinking of selling my AC for a 4dr, anybody here have any thoughts if a AC can work or should I look at trading in/selling mine to upgrade truck space? Aloha all!

    Yes sir
Unfortunately, it's probably best to go to a 4 door. Not sure if a baby seat would be considered safe if it was in the back seat of an AC?

I had a first gen AC and it really didn't work to put a kid seat in the back. I'm pretty sure the 2nd gen AC has more space so maybe it would work better (less not-work?). What we would do is have the child seat in the front passenger spot (with the airbag off) and Mom and sister in the back and me shoved up so the steering wheel was poking my stomach. You could do it for short distances, but not really the way to travel.

You could probably borrow a car seat from someone and give it a try. Keep in mind that when they are really small, you use a rear facing seat which takes a lot of space.

Good luck. I'm currently truckless because of this very issue, though I'm stalking the 3rd gen 4 door.

Yeah, we live on Maui, so not much traveling here. Tossed around the idea of car seat up front and honey bunny ride in the back or even me! hahahaha..Maybe time to finally upgrade to a 4dr.......

I'll weigh in on this. I bought my brand new '14 4dr 2 months before I found out I was having twins. I already have an almost 3yr old, so you can imagine my shock when the thought of selling my brand new truck came up. but screw that, I saved for far too long to sell this truck and I made it work. also, our other car is a leased Leaf, so we have to ride it out for 10 more months :bananadead: but, it's easier to fit 3 in that car than in the Tacoma. go figure.

so as far as 4dr's, depending on the brand of infant car seat you get, putting it behind either driver or passenger seat is gonna eat up a lot of your leg room up front, so I hope you and/or your fiance are short. if not, try strapping the seat in the middle using the seatbelt, which is supposedly just as safe as latch if done properly. I have 2 Chicco Keyfits behind the driver and passenger seats, and while it's not super comfortable having less leg room, it's doable and not sketchy. my 3 year old sits in a Diono Radian RXT and we can fit all 3 across the backseat without space issues (width-wise). I would highly, HIGHLY recommend borrowing a car seat and taking it to the dealership when you're shopping for your 4dr. once they're 2, you can turn them around in a forward facing seat and your space issues will be non-existent. it's just the first 2 years that are a pain in the ass (for car seats, not child ). good luck and congrats!

Same boat here. I just traded my 06 AC for a 09 DC. A rear facing seat is almost a joke in the access cab but we made it almost 2 years. As negotiations concerning another youngin are nearing completion, I knew it was time to up size the rear doors a bit.

I was in the same situation and got a DCLB. Baby seat will mount in the AC but mom (or other passengers) will have their face about 1 foot from the windshield plus trying to get baby in/out of the suicide doors in parking lots isn't fun. Same reason I sold my FJ

I also just found out I'm having my first kid!! I have a 08 access cab that I bought a year ago. I can't afford to get a bouble cab unless I go way older. The plan was for my wife and I to pay off our vehicles in 3more years then try for kids but in July she was in a lot of pain, she went to the doctor and they said now or never. My plans never work out haha. Anyway I have been reading up on car seats, and doing my tacomaworld studying finding out that it's a tight fit but possible, I would like to know what car seats people thought worked best in the access cab. I have been thinking the keyfit30 but I really have no idea. My wife's VW Tiguan would be the main vehicle we would use but I know I'm going to need to use my truck once in a wile. Thanks
