I would do one of 2 things.

Ignore it and squirt bed liner all over it and call it done.

Take some 180 grit and smooth the entire bumper over again and make sure everything feels like a baby's ass, then re-prime and paint.

    thanks

Fuck so I shouldn't of done 80? That probably ate the plastic didn't it? :bananadead:

I'll probably sand it down to baby ass smooth with 180 and re-prime it. If it still doesn't look ready to waste my paint on, I'll bedline and try my idea of spraying over it with lunar mist to color match it.

I don't paint for a living and I assume neither does Mr. 80 Grit, but 80 grit isn't a mild paper. Your plastic looks like it got chewed on.

If you're just removing paint I wouldn't use anything less than 150/180 grit, especially on plastic. Making way more work for yourself, unfortunately, listening to his poor "advice."

Just make sure your surface is smooth to the touch and you don't feel high or low spots when you run your hand over it. If you do, you'll see them when the paint is on and it won't look good. If you bed line it will be less noticeable since the surface is going to be textured.

If you need to even the surface, fiberglass body filler found at any auto parts store is what I'd likely use. Apply per directions, sand sand sand, test by running your hand along the piece and making sure the surface has no hills and no valleys.

You could try and spray a few coats of primer filler and see if it helps, it's hard to judge from my computer chair.

See my note about primer filler.

May be an option. You could drag that bumper to a local automotive paint store and inquire if primer filler is a possible fix.

Haha that is true. Cept it is pretty bad... I'll try the sanding first to get rid of the choppiness of the plastic then see where I go from there. Damn, can't believe I sanded with 80. It did feel really rough when touching it..

    Mr. 80 Grit here.
I always use 80 on plastic bumpers on the parts where the paint is chipping then go over with 180 to smooth out for 2k high build primer. Have never had a problem. I do this Mon-Fri and sometimes on weekends even when I have side jobs.
This is with DA sanders and automotive paint/primer out of a gun not rattle cans.

220 the coarsest for NEW abs plastic not a old one where paint is chipping.
    But what do I know....

80 grit for paint chip removal on plastic seems way too aggressive, maybe you're more adept than a first timer searching for advice on an internet forum.

Still trying to figure out OPs solution. Maybe put the sob story aside for a few posts and give him advice on what may be causing his issue. I don't do bodywork for a living, so I assume it's scratched to hell, but maybe it's a contaminant issue. I suggested he clean it up with 180 grit and try and make sure the surface is even and without highs/lows, then try making sure he has a clean surface again before priming.

Do you have anything to correct or add?

Alright I used the 80 to get rid of the chips but I may have messed up with that by going to hard and going over the plastic that was already showing. So probably user error. It was pretty scratched up until I went over it again with 220 and then I tried priming it and that is the result I got. I was following the ebay list first but then came here to ask as well. I appreciate the help from both of you and know everyone has different ways of doing it.

From this point on I will go back over it with 180 and make it smooth, clean with soap and water, then prime again. If I have the same problem with the bare plastic showing I am going to bed line it and color match it. Is that alright? Hate spending time to fuck up haha
