I want my reverse lights to come on when put into reverse gear when truck is not running. Don't want to add additional lighting. Any suggestions?

Why are you against adding additional lighting, OP?

Not 100 percent opposed to it. Just like things simple. Thought maybe like the "grey mire mod" there would be a clean and not to difficult way of doing it. I like the idea of being able to turn the truck on and put into reverse then using the lights back there to work or whatever.

The reverse lights come on when the key is turned to 'on' without starting the engine. You can switch the reverse bulbs to LEDs to decrease power consumption and increase brightness. Seems like the simplest option to me.

I'd just run a switch, not worry about shifting into R. But if I was going that route I'd put in better lights to start with and ignore the factory reverse lights entirely.

So I never realized they came on with the key in off position. This is exactly what I wanted. So to,avoid looking any more stupid than I already do and to make this thread remotely useful let's say this. I don't want to add additional lights just use what I have.

What would be the brightest bulb option(s) I could get.

How and where would I need to add a switch the the factory wiring to be able to turn on reverse lights with truck "off"?

You would have to run a hot wire from a switch to the rear lights.I installed a 3" round led light and connected it to my reverse light wire.more than enough light to do whatever I need back there
