So I'm starting a new thread for this because I wanted to see if anyone else has had the same problem. I've had a rattle from under my truck pretty much since new. I think others have had the same problem. It's a slight rattle type sound that is most obvious when you are next to a building starting from a stop (example would be a drive thru). I also found it to happen when the truck is warmed up and you switch on the A/C. This actually helped me keep it rattling long enough to get under the truck and identify the source.

The dealer couldn't find it, I thought I found it a few times only to figure out I didn't. But after this weekend I am 90% sure I identified where the noise is coming from.

The exhaust seems to rattle slightly at the joint after the Y pipe, basically the last joint in the system. The two bolts holding that joint together are tight.

I haven't dealt with bolts like this that have a spring to keep them tight, or that seems to be the purpose. Do these bolts bottom out at some point? They seem like they are. Has anyone else had a rattle type problem from this point?

    Thanks for any replies.

I don't know if this means anything to you, but my 2.7L, 2014 Tacoma does this too and it's really annoying, kind of embarrassing too. As you know the I4 is a single exhaust all the way from the exhaust manifold back.

I think it's the rubber hangers and not where the flange bolts are. I've also had six Toyota trucks and they all have made the same noise when the A/C is on. Only one truck did I manage to get rid of the sound, but I installed a custom cat-back setup on that truck.

Thanks for the reply, even if you did crash my dreams of killing the noise:). I didn't have the noise I am struggling with on my last Tacoma, which to me is part of the problem.

I'll have to take a closer look at just the hangers.

    Anyone else have this problem?

Did you ever get this fixed? I'm leaning towards replacing the spring bolts and the gasket that fits between the two flanges in that last joint...

I have an extremely loud rattle that happens when I first start my truck. After it's warmed up it seems to go away. It doesn't happen in park, only when you hold your foot on the brake and put it in gear. It also gets louder when you turn the wheel back and forth. It goes away when it's warm which makes it hard to bring in to the shop.

Same exact thing is happening here brotha. I have a custom exhaust. I checked the bolts, seem pretty tight.
