That AT 6-speed should boost real mpg numbers.

Word. Although would be difficult to go for that over an MT. Hoping there's a bit of an increase on 2nd Gen MTs, otherwise might as well go second hand. (As I sure as sh*t can't afford a V6).

Good luck finding one second hand with low miles for a decent price... Here is Southeastern NC they wanted more for them than the new ones, and I was even told by several dealers I could get a new one for cheaper. It makes no sense. Nonetheless, I pick up my 2016 4 banger this Saturday.

I'm glad it's not just me. I was beginning to think dealerships in my area were thieves. I saw a lot of 2nd gens that were more than a comparable 3rd gen

fuck that 4cyl, been there and not so great. msgs aren't great cause that little motor is working so hard all the time, just wait till you put something in the box or some tires on it... on top of that if you can find a 2015 v6 they're several thousand cheaper right now.

Seems like you took the wrong turn and ended up in the 4cy thread instead of the 6cy thread.

Couple things here, the 4 cly isn't under powered, its ok powered. It's definitely not a fast truck, but it's not slow either. Yes, I gun it here and there, mainly on the highway as I'm probably one of the few people who gets up to traffic speed before merging into traffic on the highway ramp. 80% of the time the motor isn't being over worked. Hey, I even put 33s on mine and the gearing, acceleration is fine. The only down side is that 5th isn't as peppy as it used to be. I used to be able to accelerate in 5th but I can only maintain speed in 5th now. The RPM is just not high enough in 5th with 33s for acceleration.Though I'm sure a regear would fix that.

Also, most of us know what we are getting. The 4 cylinder does a fine job keeping up with traffic and meeting all speed limits. It also pulls really well when I load up the bed with an ice chest, and some camping gear. Turns out not everyone needs 300hp and 10 tons of towing capacity in order to tow a complete construction site like the deep voiced narrators make it out to be in truck commercials.

The other nice thing is that for us long term vehicle owners the 4 cyl has lower maintenance cost and lower repair cost. It wasn't until I started doing major work and engine rebuilds on previous cars that I really came to appreciate the 4 cylinders simplicity and lower cost.

I was told the same, pretty much. Was a 2k difference between a new one and one with 20k miles on it

no wrong turn. i owned a 4cyl reg cab 5spd for 3yrs, it was ok coming from a suzuki vitara that was also lifted and beat on and had no power. all of your points are good though. but toyota could have done a little to get more power of the engine for the new trucks, the price increase is significant and it's just interior flash and different looking outside parts. i am curious to see how the new auto trans does. as for maintenance can you describe the difference other than a bit more oil at oil changes and 2 extra plugs that rarely get changed? i never ever towed with mine, but loaded it pretty heavy with a load my unassembled kitchen cabinets and used if for a long distance move. it did it but didn't do it great. anyway i will let you guys enjoy your new trucks!

I'm only on my 4th tank in the 2016 4-banger manual access cab, but I'll pitch in. I reset the trip-odometer in the dealer's parking lot and drove it to half a tank during city duty. 22mpg if you stopped pumping as soon as the pump stopped. I think the dealer overtopped it. Then I took it on the highway on a 200 mile trip, alternating flooring it and cruising. I might have exceeded the speed limit a bit during that trip, because it rode so smooth. 19 MPG for that.

On the way home I filled up before I set off and pinned it at 75mph. When I got home and filled up, the math came out to exactly 21MPG.

Please note that I have a Manual 4-banger 4x4 Access Cab with deleted seats. My truck might be a little lighter than average.
