TDA is a product of the fact there is a middleman (the dealer) between you and the manufacturer. You don't pay TDA on a Tesla as there is no middleman.

Burger King will build the price of advertising and everything else including profit into the price of the burger. Same with the Tesla.

A Toyota dealer buys the vehicle from Toyota for the invoice price (really invoice - hold backs) then sells the vehicle for some amount more than that for gross profit. The TDA is really them trying to set a floor per vehicle to cover the costs of doing business. The profit margin is probably very thin at invoice + TDA.

The trick is to get your deal at super thin profit for them. They count on all the suckers who walk in and buy a truck off the lot for MSRP with lots of high margin add-ons for making real profit.

I agee its is part of doing business. I just don't see a need for a separate line item for it.

Its probably the law that it must be listed individually, like all the other nonsense. Dealers mask that stuff with acronyms, etc.

So it seems like my dealer makes everything look acceptable, but not great when they give me numbers. They emailed me my build date is 11/30, when @Letsgoplaces gives me a date of 11/24. They also gave me an estimated price, but couldn't give me an exact number before I ordered. I've been a little nervous about this, but just got my final price and they beat their estimate by $800! Maybe they are trying to make themselves look better in the end, but now that I have all of the numbers I've been impatiently waiting for for the last 4 weeks... I'm completely happy with my deal and my dealer - even though they gave me some sleepless nights thinking I would have to back out and start over from scratch. I'll ask them about the TDA fee when I call them tomorrow.

    On a side note:

Internet Marketing... @Letsgoplaces is doing it right - even if he doesn't consider it marketing. If I hadn't already ordered my 2016, I would be taking an 8 hour trip to Phoenix.
