You can drive 60mph in 4WD -I do it on the highway when it's raining heavily as a maintenance item ( keep things lubricated).

Snow? I always use 4WD. Better be safe than sorry. In fact, these trucks are so light in the rear, even on wet roads and too much gas...it can get tail happy.

You just need to be aware of the system. Don't make tight turns in 4WD, be aware that things can bind up in certain situations. When it binds up - the truck will buck and skip. DO NOT FORCE IT.
When it bucks and otherwise won't move when you hit the gas, back off, take it out of 4WD.

when I'm in Edmonton in the winter I keep it in 4x4 all the time just so I can get out of the way, when the snow hits the road the vehicle hit the ditch unlike in any city I've seen

I have winter tires and sand bags. I run in 2wd until she doesn't want to go when leaving a stop sign or light.

When there's snow on the road I put it in 4HI , not sure there's much point in trying to over think it beyond that

That's my primary concern as well, the city crews never seems to get to the major entry points into the city after a nasty storm in time, I've been on the 16 going east in bumper to bumper traffic, there is literally no pavement at all, everyone is doing 30 on uneven, inch thick black ice, if the guy in front of me hits his brakes and goes, I'm damn well ensuring I can bail into the ditch without waiting to shift into 4.

I've had too many close calls already here, if theres enough slippage to allow me to drive in 4H, I'm doing it. Whereabouts in AB are you?

Fort McMurray so I'm all familiar with the lack of snow removal
