I was wondering why my headlight would stay on after my keys are pulled. I hopped in my truck and turn the ignition on to check something. After I was done a pulled the keys out and went about my business, 10 minutes later I came back and my lights were still on. I had to manual turn them off with turn signal lever by the steering wheel. Maybe it just me but it sounds like an open relay and something that would drain my battery over time. Correct or Crazy?

Some flags and center console divider... lots of things on the wanted list.
Did you ever close your door after the initial opening? Typically, my lights will stay on until I open my door after turning off the truck. So if you don't close it when the engine is running... and then turn it off? I will have to go try that out later for you.

Let me correct myself, I didn't turn the car on I just turn the ignition to the on position with out starting it. But yes I did pull the keys out and shut the door from the orginal process.

Same thing happened when I got my truck and I was a little flustered because a 35k truck should turn off the lights on its own. So I read up in the owner's manual (a great read if you have some free time, haha) and found out that the lights will stay on until the drivers door is opened. So for me, I had jumped in the passenger seat, turned the keys, got out and went inside. Came back 15 minutes later with lights on. Just as long as you make sure to open the drivers door there isn't any problems.

It has to do something with the sequence of things you did. Initially if you turn the truck off and get out the lights turn off. If you change that up the lights may stay on.

Why not just turn the lights off when you get out. That's what I do. I just see the system as a safety backup to turn off the lights if I forget to do it.

This is exactly what I was getting at.
