2008 2.7L Cold Air Intake????

I have a 2008 2.7L taco with a 2.5inch toy tech lift and 265 toyo open countries and wanna throw a CAI on it to really open it up and give me that extra HP and torque. An exhaust will follow in the future.

What do u guys recommend? I've been looking at K&N (77-9026KP) but have also seen the TRD and URD intakes mentioned. Also seen a number of mods people have done which keep the original air box and basically replace only the filter.

What would be the best bang for the buck?

 

Stock is free. The only thing aftermarket cai will change significantly is noise. I don't think its worth it, but if you want the womp womp, I hear AFE makes a nice kit.

Well if stock is the case and replacing the stock CAI system with an aftermarket one is a waste of time then I think I'm just gonna go with the K&N drop in for $55 (

K&N 33-2306) instead of the whole system for $300+

 

i am gonna be the jerk that breaks it to the kid that Santa isn't real. The K&N also hasn't been proven to increase performance either. As a matter of fact, if improperly maintained can ruin MAF and destroy performance. I am sorry, but I the stock system is pretty good already and hard to improve without spending significant amount of money for small top end gains. If this was 1994 it would be a different story. The only aftermarket filter I bought for my Taco is the K&n replacement cabin filter.

 

So even replacing the stock carbon filter with a high flow filter will change nothing?

 

Here is the best way that I can explain the KN intake/filter vs stock. Way back in 1998, my buddy bought a 1993 Camaro Z28. I literally bought the exact same car, a 1993 Camaro Z28. His was bone stock, even paper filter. Mine had a flowmaster muffler and KN filter. Both cars ran really well. Both had recent tune ups at the time. We lined up and he pulled on me about 1/4 of a fender. I was pissed and ordered a Moroso cold air kit. A week later, ran them again and this time he had me by a nose.

 

I've been told that the stock paper /mesh fiber filter is the best at filtering and that filter with the stock intake already flows more air than the throttle body can take in. Therefore any modification to this system would be pointless.

Aside from that, no man - the stock system is great. Spend your money on other things!
