I've got an older Chiltons, not sure of it's accuracy.
it says the castle nut for the actual ball joint is 112 ftpd for Tacoma and 105 ftpd for the 4runner.
the tie rod is 66 ftpd and

    the four bottom bolts at,
    ready for this...

    59 ftpd for the 4runner
and 83 ftpd for the Tacoma.

    I just don't know.

I'm sure 59 would be fine. Like I said, the diameter of those bolts is kind of small to be torquing in the upper range like that. I think 80 is a bit high myself, yet my manual says 83.
loctite my friend, cover your ass, and witness mark those bad boys to see if they move.

I've always put them right around 50 and paint pen them to see if they've moved. Start with new bolts too. You're lucky you didn't strip out the threads in the spindle.

I saw Brett's bolts the other weekend.
Those things are tiny on the first gens!
I see that it's been addressed, but when I first read you broke one at 105 I thought "well yeah, there's no way a bolt that size carries that high of a torque spec"

I HEAR YA! On not stripping the spindle. I thought that same thing. I'm also going to try and pick up some new bolts this week.

@Gramps, So I called Fox today and the tech told me as long as I see some of the shaft between their bump and that end plate I'm good.

I also ran into another problem with my new ET lug nuts and wheel studs. I can't use either with the wheels I have. So I also called Method today and found out I need an acorn style lug nut with a 60* angle. The wheel studs shaft is just a little to long for the front. For the rear they are just a tad to thick. Been doing some homework and measuring and found another wheel stud I can use. This time I'm going to pick one up at auto zone before I buy all I need. I'll post results later.

I picked up a wheel stud today to give it a try. It worked out great.

With the 1/4" spacer I have just over 1/4" gap. Then when my son jumps on the frame it compresses to about an 1/8. It never bottoms out.

I wouldn't cut it too close Ray.

When you huck that thing, or rather when it lands, it's going to be a whole lot more force than your son bouncing on the frame...

Yeah I still wonder on that. I mean on one hand Ray is using all the travel possible which is what we ultimately want but on the other hand I would personally sacrifice a bit of travel to insure not having a suspension catastrophe after a mall speed bump. :p

I hear ya. Once those bumps get a few hits on them they just might need another spacer. I also jumped on the frame too and the boy said it never bottomed out. But as much as these coil overs cost I'll add another 1/8 spacer. Thanks for your input guys I really appreciate it.

The bump stop spacer is now just over 3/8". I now have 9/16" of shaft showing. While I jump on the frame I still have quite a bit of shaft showing.

Ummm yeah that was me and my son recording it so I can see what it looked like with my weight. :p

I'm not going to push the truck until I get the secondaries on the front and get the rear together. For now it will just be a DD.

I put the bumps in for good and I also got a few packages today. Lower ball joint hardware and I put them on at 59 ft lbs. Corrosion X. Since no one I know used it. I'm going to be the gimme pig and see how this stuff works. I'm planning on putting it on any exposed steel on the shocks. I'll keep you guys posted.

It's finally on. I still have to do the limit straps and remote reservoirs.

    I also ordered this today.

Funny Guy! Yeah I have them too. They are sitting on the table. I still need to cycle for limit straps then I'll throw them on and recharge with nitrogen.
