image.png image.jpg Hello, I'm looking on getting new tires soon, just wondering which tire would be the best choice? I'm currently looking at either cooper discoverer stt pros? Or open country m/t? Best in traction? Best in warranty? Sound? Tire life? Best all around tire on any given terrain? Street, dirt, snow, wet, etc. ? Thank you.

No experience with the STT pro. My dad only runs the Toyo MT and he loves them, they last forever (two sets of 70k miles on his Chevy 1500 Z71) and grip like mad, they're beasts in the snow. The main negative is how heavy they are and I don't think they're as quiet on the road as some other newer MT's. Also they are a bit pricey the last time I checked.

Oh I see, thanks for the response. How do they grip on the road in the rain? If you know?

Honestly I would guess about like any MT... not very good. Even the aggressive AT's struggle in the rain. However, I'm in Seattle and my pops never complains about it.

Let's hear it for HB!! If you're looking for a quiet ride don't get a mud tire. In the past I've noticed that toyo tires hookup rather nicely though.

I have the Discovery ATP's and love them. Zero complaints... on road, off road, mud, sand, wet, dry all great. Slight hum on the road but not over powering.

If you're not dead set on mt's I love my toyo at2's. Little bit of a hum on the road . Lots of siping for wet traction.

so check out my Surf City Thread. ..

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/official-surf-city-usa-thread.397540/

going to head down to Sugar Shack for food in a bit if you want to check out my Toyo's...

I was going to get the ATs too, but went with these at the last minute as I liked the more aggressive sidewall. they do have a bit of hum to them, but combined with the slight whistle from my windshield light bar and the sound from my Aero Turbine muffler, I'm all good!

We install tons of Toyo MTs and have never had an issue. They are hands down the best MT on the market. Toyo's run very square which results in a very easy to balance tire and very consistent tread wear. They hold up great on pretty much every vehicle and for being as agressive as they are stay quiet throughout their life span.

I personally have run 5 sets of them on 4 different vehicles (Tacoma-2 sets, 4Runner, F250 and a lowered Tahoe) They will be the only tire I will ever run.

I'm looking at both of these as well. I've read hours of reviews on the Open Country MT on several sites & every one of them were good. The look of the STT Pro caught my eye. They just came out this year so there isn't a bunch of info on them for long term wear. So far all I've read is positive stuff though.

Dude I'm sorry I saw this late, do you in the downtown area? I feel like I've seen your truck down there. I like the more aggresive sidewall as well.

It's making the decision harder isn't it? Haha it's hard to decide which tire to go with.

I loved my Toyo MT's when i had them, ran 2 sets. Only negative is holy shit they are heavy. My old 265/75 Toyo MT's are heavier than my new 285 MTR's WITH KEVLAR. Thats some serious weight..
