OK guys I ended up running a "hot" line from my fuse box to get 12v to the lights and put a 7.5amp fuse between the battery and my rocker switch. Running into an issue though and Im not sure whether or not I need a relay, the LED's are wired directly to the switch and are only turning on for a brief second when I flip the rocker on/off...any ideas?

You can always tap into the dome light. Plug is located driver side fuse panel.

Hmmm... Shouldn't need a relay. I couldn't open the Amazon link that you posted, but if you are using led strips or something like a 3w led light "button", it isn't drawing enough amps to require a relay. Perhaps something wrong with the switch? if anything, I would say test it without the switch, but leave the fuse in place to protect your other wiring. Are you grounding to the door? Maybe a bad connection there? Also try finding a clean bare metal ground or just run the ground wire all the way back to your fuse box. Doing this would eliminate a bunch of possibilities for a bad connection elsewhere.

I ended up scratching my first idea for mounting them on the door and put them in a more direct path for foot illumination, the LED's are the small 3w "button" style light and I checked to make sure they lit up before I put them in so the lights are good but the switch may be f'd. The lights turn on when they're wired direct an not through the switch so Im thinking its this darn switch...to O'reillys tomorrow I will go

Turned out pretty well but they're some bright lights so I dont drive with them on but man o man if you drop anything between the seats you can see it hell of a lot easier! I also wired up some of the same lights in my front wheel-wells an hooked it up to my LED's in the grill, theres a small hole just above the wheel that accommodates the light perfectly! And a quick from my cross country trip a few months back..everyone should see Bryce Canyon before they check out

Looks good man! I misunderstood your project, thought you were going to have them on the bottom of the door to light up the ground outside the truck when you exit. I'm actually in the middle of this right now which is why I revisited the old thread. I'm using short led strips (like hood lights or bed lights) mounted facing down next to the weatherstripping at the trailing edge of each door to get the farthest reach of light. It will all be wired to my dome light to they turn on and fade off with the interior lights. Wiring is not difficult, but tedious to run everything neatly.

Thanks man. I did start this with the intention of putting the lights on the door but wasn't to sure which wire I could tap to power the lights (wanted them to stay on when the trucks on) but couldn't figure things out so I put them on the inside instead. I'll keep an eye open for yours though!

Oh and BTW, 2nd for Bryce. I want there about 10 years age and haven't had a chance to go back. Me and the wife are planning a big trip this coming spring. Grand Canyon and Bryce are our two choices...
