Yeah...not the like French with their beards and daisy duke uni shorts. At least that's what they wear on the flight line out here for Red Flag

Pretty old thread, but I gotta put in my 2¢ worth...
My own service was during the cold war, during which time I enjoyed hitchhiking in uniform. I earned no ribbons for my 4 years that I know of, and had an altogether different uniform than anyone today is familiar with.
It might have been me that would thank these posers for their service, not willing to dishonor a man on a hunch. I do very much enjoy seeing the bastards get caught and outted on the National News, and would love to put on my old combat boots to greet one in person. I know, you probably don't even call them combat boots anymore, do you?
A big thank you to all you guys who proudly and rightfully display those medals.

I did 20 years in the military- 8 Enlisted and 12 Commissioned, and I learned something very important.

A Veteran is someone who, at some point in their life, took out a blank check- made it "Payable to the U.S.A." in the amount of "Up to and Including my Life"- and then had the courage to sign that check. I doesn't matter where or when you served, what ribbons you received, or whether or not you saw combat. If you signed that check you earned the title "Veteran", and you should carry that title with honor.

Not like these phony morons who never served and try to appear as if they did.

    Something else civilians don't get.
They think anyone who didn't "kill anybody" didn't actually serve.
Depending on mission it takes anywhere from 4 to 9 "support troops" to keep 1 spear thrower in action.
No beans, no bullets, and no band-aids means your grunt is pretty useless.
And who ends up doing what, where, and when can be pretty random.
Audie Murphy himself said many times he could have been made a cook or supply guy and his job would have been just as important, only difference is no one would ever have heard of him.
Alvin York could have been driving a truck or handling mules 30 miles from Hill 223

We need "real" military movies. These are all factual missions involving real people.

"The Gear Locker": gripping tale of a group of maintenance and supply specialists who faithfully repair and ship gear around the clock and around the world without complaint.

"Disbursing" a fast based tale of financial wizardry and how pay specialists ensure Grandma gets the allotment E2 Jones sends home.

"Shots and Water": Throughout the history of war, disease has killed more warriors than any General. This tale follows a Corpsman, a Potable Water Specialist, and a madcap team of SeaBees who really keep the shit from hitting the fan.

"Gator Squares": 2 nations are prevented from warring by the intrepid crew of the USS Smalltown who spend 45 days eating 3 bean-salad and hotdog-pineapple soup while steaming back and forth between the combatants until they chill out.

"Taps": A high school musician is selected for a military band. After much hard work, she plays for the proud families at enlisted and officer graduations and ceremonies. Months later she plays for some of the same families, now grieving at enlisted and officer funerals.

    SeaBees!
Thanks for building all the stuff this grunt needed on the beach!
    You guys rock!

You could be eligible for at least the Good Conduct.
Good place to start if you are interested.

Thanks for the link, but medals and certificates are not my thing. What I do wish I'd been aware of was my eligibility to use the VA years ago! It was my son (also a Veteran) who advised me of the VA. I'd always thought it was only for hot war Veterans, and didn't get with the program till I was in my 70's.
