About this project
THE JOURNEY
We’ve been on a journey to develop the world’s most advanced off road and 4x4 recovery device.
There have been multiple variations of recovery ramps dating back to the first world wars where there was an aluminium track used. Since then there have been different variations with people making them out of steel, other people making them out of plastic.
Traction boards or recovery ramps work by giving the vehicles tyres something to grip onto. Once the tyres have effectively grabbed onto the ramp the vehicle literally pops up out of the ground and out of the sticky situation. The traction board or ramp then allows the vehicle to build up momentum along the board before hitting the soft ground again.
Recovery ramps are the best form of solo recovery for a vehicle and they’re also far safer then using highly stressed winches and other steel components that cause terrible injuries when they fail.
In Australia most people go four wheel driving or know somebody that goes four wheel driving and TRED is one of the most common accessories.
THE PROBLEM
Loss of traction: When heading off road for work or play loss of traction can not only disrupt your journey but can put you and your equipment in harms way. Traditional recovery equipment requires the use of winches or towing straps either requiring fixed objects such as trees or another vehicle to tow you out. Both of which are not always readily available.
Existing recovery ramps: One of the biggest issues with existing recovery ramps is when a user accidentally spins their wheels it can cause irreversible damage to the product that they may have paid up to $300 for. Keeping wheel spin to a minimum is one of the biggest challenges and requires a lot of skill when you lose traction in sand, mud, snow and other terrains. It instantly generates a very high heat which goes beyond the melt point of the plastic that they’re made from. As soon as that melt point is breached it starts to melt the material away removing any chance of the tyre gaining traction.

WHY LAUNCH ON KICKSTARTER

There are multiple benefits to launching a product via a crowdfunding campaign, however we felt it was a great opportunity to use a platform like Kickstarter to help bring TRED Pro to market in the shortest amount of time possible. We see terrific value in launching TRED Pro to the international market and leveraging Kickstarter’s worldwide popularity to find out what the market wants and engage with customers. Ultimately if we used traditional channels and processes it would take twelve (12) to eighteen (18) months before it is available to customers. To guarantee TRED Pro becomes a reality in less than six (6) months and ensure it is made available globally as economically as possible, we see Kickstarter as being the perfect proponent in raising awareness and achieving support from interested backers.
We have already carried out the R&D phase over months and months of work and the final design is finished (unless the market intel tells are something we're missing. Another benefit of launching on Kickstarter). The funding will ensure manufacturing is accelerated and the product is brought to market globally extremely fast.
Based on volume should particular geographical markets result in volume sales we will be able to leverage even cheaper freight via full container loads and any saving will be passed on directly to our customers, making the product even cheaper.
Ultimately we have the opportunity based on successfully achieving the goal to bring TRED Pro to you in a third of the time and for a drastically cheaper price.

Hm..interesting. I'm wondering if they addressed the issue of the plastic cracking and breaking. Seems like better traction and lower profile is the priority. It is interesting how they will work with existing mounting pins i.e. Maxtrax pins. I admire their solution to fix some of the existing problems with the current model and I wish they success in their campaign.

I think I'll stick with my Maxtrax..

I saw similar ^ that states these kinda boards crack almost immediately but the lugs don't melt as fast

 

Plus the new kickstarter version still only has one ramp..I wonder when they're gonna learn

@ramonortiz55, looks interesting. I just emailed the person from the kickstarter campaign to figure out how it works. I'll update here on the response as I'm interested in these as well. Here are the questions I asked:

1) If you don't meet the total dollar amount of your goal, will I still receive the package I back?
2) If not, will my money be refunded?

 

The TREDs are directional in that they only use one ramp. The Maxtrax are twin shaped meaning they can be used in any direction. The guy in the video I posted explains it better.

 

Here is another question you can ask.

are the fund prizes cumulative?

Like if I provide funds at a tier level, do i get all the items AT that tier level as indicated, or do I get the items from THAT tier level and all the ones below it?

I'll ask when they respond, but I'm guessing it's not cumulative. I think you get whatever is in the package you back. I say that b/c I read the comments where guys were wanting to upgrade their investment to get a new package they offered.
