So i found my front bumper like this when i was leaving work today. Basically someone backed into it, didn't like a damn note and just took off. Karma is a b*tch, I hope they hit a deer on their way home.

just like many of the members here, i have been wanting to get a steel front bumper anyway. my deductible is $250, but is it even worth calling my insurance?
My guess is that they will probably just pay for repair/repaint of the bumper which won't be much.

thinking of using the insurance money and get a plate bumper instead of having them repair the stock. Will my insurance premium go up if i report the incident?

Put the Internet down and ask yourself the same question, specifically the owner of the damaged truck.

if you're gonna just replace the bumper with a plate bumper, whats the point of spending the money to do the repair? use your deductible if and when you get into another accident and more damage has been caused.

Why not get some estimates from a couple shops around your area? You'd be surprised what it would cost to fix. With that figure in mind, you can see what your $250 "investment" could get you. Seeing how minor it is, I could live with it, but I'm not like a lot of members on here. It's still bug me, but I'd get over it. Hell, I had a dent in the side of my two week old truck when my BIL did some kind of ninja roll out of the bed while out paintballing. There was no need for it and all the gear he was wearing is what made the dent.

Get the estimates and ask the shops to use OEM parts for the quotes. You can present that to your insurance company if you choose to follow through and tadah: New plate bumper!

I'll probably go to the Toyota dealership body shop and have them write me an estimate :)

    Lots...
I would leave it as it is... but that's just me...

Don't know how insurance works in the US, but here in Mexico you pay for everything until the costs reach the deductible...

How exactly are you going to manage a new bumper out of a light tap and scrape? I'm just not seeing how you're going to get $1000-$1500 for that minor of damage. :boink:

Had a lawn mower at work put a scratch across the entire lower bumper. only 2inches along the painted part, then the entire lower center valance. Lower center valance 140 bucks.... painted bumper..... whole new bumper cover needed as its textured, then it would need to be painted, all cus a 2 inch scratch. Total was 880 bucks from the insurance company of the place i work at.

Took the 880 bucks, did my lift, and intake manifold spacer, spent 30 min total with some touch up paint (that my buddy had), clear coat and sand paper, you can hardly tell the scratch is there in the painted part.

Wow, I wouldn't expect that much from such a small scratch. That's the one "downside" to these trucks is the textured plastic that seems to wrap around the truck. The bumper and fender flares are all that plastic material. I guess in OP's case that would benefit him. Never knew such small damage could be so much in repair!

Everyone has a different threshold for the pain of a ding.

To me, I may not have even noticed that damage on mine.

I would not claim it only out of fear I'd need to make a more serious claim and risk a cost increase.

What part if the policy would that fall under?
