Looking for some opinions and advice here guys. So currently I'm in college and have very little auto mechanical experience, although I come from a family that made their own custom hot rods :D . I really have a strong desire to learn and love off roading, recently I have been investing baja bugs and now I'm in a position where I could go 50/50 into one with my parents. I've been reading into them for a while and I believe a baja bug will not only be a lot of fun in the dunes, but a great place to start learning! I'm planning on buying a running one, I've seen them on craigslist range form $1700 to $3000 for the ones I'm looking for. Do you all think I should go ahead and purchase a baja bug?
Yes I know it can't off road as well as my current Tacoma does in mountains and other places, for a while I was thinking about doing a project Tacoma but I believe a baja bug will be a lot simpler, and nicer on my college budget. All help appreciated.

Do it. Everything on a bug is way cheaper than even a taco. Great for playing around in.

Eh now I'm debating on it. May save up a little longer, wait until I have a better paying job and trade my current taco for a 4x4 Tacoma. A Baja Bug can't do all the insane off-roading a Tacoma can do, it can get close but after getting high into the teens with money. However I am not making any final decisions until after I ride in a Baja Bug.

So do both... Keep the bug for weekends and keep the Tacoma for a daily or trade it for 4x4 and run mild 4x4 trails.

I'm planning on doing the same but with my taco being the weekend toy and a new tundra being the daily. Budget accordingly though, whatever you do lol.

That's the issue, budget. I'm currently a college student so money is thin. Yes I know what you're gonna say wait until after I'm done with college however I have some free time and want to keep myself busy with a hobby hence off roading.

Bro, I'm in college too. Luckily my wife has a good job though lol. If you're worried about budget the Baja bug makes more sense to me, because when budget is tight you can park it and when you can spend money you can upgrade it.

If you daily the 4x4 anything that breaks has to be fixed ASAP.

Hahaha geezus... that's a good point about the baja bug. Still up for debate not sure how well a baja bug will act in mountain and trail terrain instead of out in the dunes.
