1992 Toyota pickup. Bought it with a blown head gasket. Still ran, just smoked really bad. Towed it to my mechanic. He tore it down and realized the head had a crack in it. Ordered new head, valves, ect. And he installed everything. I did some body work on one of his vehicles for him for the work he did. So now a month later I've finally gotten time to try messing with it. It's smoking out of the exhaust tip. And it's a lot of smoke. Never goes away. Have had it running for over 2 hours the other day and it never stopped. And it's running really rough. Any one have any thoughts? I checked the timing and it seems to be right. But I don't have a clue why it would be smoking with the new head and new gasket. Could it be a clogged fuel filter making it run rough? When you try and drive it up hill it bogs down. Same as when you're sitting idling and rev it it hits a dead spot and falls on its face. Could a clogged fuel filter cause all the white smoke?

In case you haven't figured this out yet, white smoke = coolant in the combustion chamber. If it is smoking bad when the engine is warm the coolant leak is significant. Something in the rebuild was not done correctly or potentially faulty parts were used or you have a crack in your lower intake manifold. If it is that bad and freshly rebuilt, I'd bet on the lower intake manifold.

As to the throttle issue, it sounds like the TPS sensor. You can look up how to test the TPS sensor to confirm using a multimeter and taking measurements at idle, partial throttle and WOT.

A clogged fuel filter will not cause white smoke and is unlikely to cause the engine to 'fall on its face', it would more likely cause a lack of power.
