This is where I work. I walk down this sidewalk every day. A few months ago this lady started parking her Dodge (sorry, RAM, whatever) like this. Usually she gets the tire all the way to the curb. With the landscaping its a PITA getting thru there. There's also plenty of room in front of her vehicle to park decently without having the front end hang out.

I know its hard to tell from the photo. There's about 3 feet from her front bumper to the edge of the island to her right, so there's plenty of room to pull up. Someone would have to jump a curb to clip her front end. Everyone in the south parking area uses that end of the sidewalk. I have to turn sideways and lean to not hit the limbs when I walk by.

Not a parking problem. It's a civil design problem.

    ^^^And this.

I cannot fault someone for backing into a spot and there bumper hanging over. Just a bad design of the placement of the sidewalk (see Civil Design issue). I have been taught from a very young age to back into every spot I park if possible. You can see what you are backing into as you are currently aware of your surroundings. But you are limited to your visibility to back out of a spot. Safety is always a concern. This is even implemented at my work. All employees are required to back into a parking spot in your personal vehicle or a company rig. This creates a safety culture that you carry with you wherever you are. I have two young drivers that know this from watching me and they both know to back into a parking spot or pull through to be as safe as possible.

I always back in as well for the same reason... I've just passed the spot and can see what is where. But backing out, especially with bigger vehicles next to me :annoyed:

Apparently making into one of the various open spots on either side of the lanes in this little mall was out of the question... Seriously? Wtf is going through your head that would possess you to park like this? Completely take up a lane in the centre of a 3 way convergence. Some peoples effin kids, i tell ya...

Ha-ha I shoveled snow at work for the sole purpose of showing my coworker that she was parked on top of a parking space line. ;)

I always back in whenever possible. One of the local towns has a city ordinance that says backing in is illegal...:censored:... They used to have a city wide permit and the police couldn't see the permit while driving by if you backed in. Since the permit is gone the police don't enforce the ordinance unless you do something else wrong. It is safer and easier to back in than to back out for many reasons.

Now this Asshole thinks his catty is so important that he parked in a no parking zone with several open spots next to him. At least he kept it in the lines... IMG_20151110_121444073_HDR.jpg

LOL at FWD plate on a RWD car.....parking isn't their only source of confusion. Stupid way to park, forcing someone pulling in head first to ding his Lexus pass door when they get out. Senseless short bus strategy. Lots and lots of people not riding the short buses that really should be nowadays.

I do agree that wheels stops or a wider sidewalk would help prevent this being an issue. I also agree with the comments about backing into a spot, I do that as well. I guess my issue here is one of context. This is at a private office building with several different businesses in it. People who park on this side of the building all use the sidewalk. Everyone else parking along the sidewalk, stops short or driving over it, there's plenty of room. To me its the same as someone in a regular parking space going over the center line making the space behind or in front of them shorter for someone else (see last photo in Post #2816 above). We have a few people here who drive long full size HD trucks. They typically go to the far end of the parking lot where they can take up more space without bugging other people. To me, everything in this thread is out courtesy and acting responsibly with regard for others, that's why I thought this belonged here. Its a judgment call I guess.

There were five empty spaces in front of her yet she chose to just park in the lane. Some people just want to watch the world burn.
