It's cheaper not to have options. Like owning one pair of shoes. As long as people keep buying these trucks as they are, you won't see much. What is the advantage to having a dragster for $40k. They become street trucks. The small diesel if cheap enough I can see. Just get yourself an old Norton 750 Commando if you want to go 0-60 in 5 seconds and kill yourself doing it.

One pair of shoes saves money by only purchasing one pair of shoes. When you buy a Tacoma, you only have to pay for the engine it comes with, not all that's offered. Not a very good analogy.

And I had to look up a Norton 750 Commando. Not sure how it relates as I wouldn't even consider it remotely quick by today's standards but my point is with the V8 and/or diesel is not in objective performance. It's the subjective performance. I wouldn't want a V8 for speed, just for the option and not having a lame V6 as Rock Lobster said.

Great analogy. The more options you have, the more tooling the manufacturer needs the more it costs the retailer and the ultimately consumer. That's the reason the VW bug out cheaped everyone years ago. You need to study marketing. You go into a shoe store and the more choices you have in shoes, the more expensive everything is. The military works in this premise in clothing and the tax payer is greatFul.....at least in that respect. I wouldn't want you managing one if my retail outlets.
Good grief, the Norton I road was one of the quickest bikes in it's time. It's 0 to 60 would be a close match for a taco v8 and it ain't suppose to match a modern cycle. Another :bikewheelie:

I'm interested to see how this turns out.

I've had a 4runner and GX470 both with the 4.7l V8 and those were some of the smoothest engines I've ever driven. Wish Toyota would at least try it as a concept to gauge interest. No way Toyota would do this as a factory option though.

Theres a guy over on the Colorado forum that stuffed a new V8 in one of those so its doable....

I don't know anything about the Norton you "road" but it still has nothing to do with a V8 Tacoma. And the introduction of a V8 would hardly be fast enough to "kill yourself". Hyperbole I say.

And while I understand perfectly the concept of tooling cost being passed to the consumer, my ideas aren't exactly reinventing the wheel here. I said offer an existing V8 and diesel in the Tacoma chassis. Wouldn't be a lot of work or tooling involved.

And it's funny how with all of these tooling costs, other manufacturers can do it but Toyota can't. Ford offers 4 engines in the F150 and it outsells the Tacoma handily. Maybe it's because they've listened to what people want and offer an engine for everyone's needs.

But I'm just guessing. No big deal either way.

Probably the same with the V8 in the 4runner but that was at a time when gas prices were higher. The guy with the Colorado swapped in an LS3...

This thread might as well be called "Who would like to see a V8 option Prius?" because it's not going to happen. Especially with tighter CAFE regs.

I doubt the CAFE standards would take a hit if Toyota offered the 4.6 in the Tacoma.

The thing is with a high torque small V8 like the 4.6L you don't have your foot into the skinny pedal as much to get up to speed, pass, and maintain speed.

I've seen it with the 4.7 in the 4920lb Tundra, I get roughly the same MPG as I did with the 2012 Taco 4.0 (which weighed 4380 on the same scale). The 325 torque 4.7 requires less skinny pedal and less RPM to get the truck moving from a stop, passing, maintaining speed on hills, and towing.

It would be a beautiful thing if Toyota offered the 4.6 in the Tacoma.

Damn, talk about bringing a thread back from the dead. Here's OP thinking we were getting the dual vvti 4.0L! Chevy is having really big troubles with those uber tough cafe standards offering 2 small 6.2L V8 cars. But they get pretty decent mpgs for having 650 HP! If Toyota got their head out of their ass and offered a half way decent mpg full size, they wouldn't have to offer a van motor Tacoma with an "upgraded" transmission that's also used on 4 cylinders to try to keep up with CAFE.

I will be posting all my upgrades and photos of everything I had to do to make it work. I have no doubts that it will work. I even installed a Detroit true trac to handle the Extra amazing horse power. It's still a secret as to what the final plan is for my truck but think epic overlander. Thanks for the support.

I'm having great success with my Toyota turbo. In fact it's been no less reliable than my 2000 Civic 1.6L D16Y7. Toyota could easily do another turbo 6, assuming it's designed, tested, and built in Japan of course.

    Too many to list now.
Why not just put a v8 in yourself? We're doing a 94 pickup with an LS series motor here right now. It's totally doable.

I will be posting all the requirements to do the 4.6 swap and i am even going to try and put the shifter in for the 6 speed if i can. I have done worse swaps before so this should be down to clearing the radiator and making new mounts lol. After that it's making it seem like a factory install. Too bad I couldn't use the newer tundra Guage cluster as well.
