I'll try and keep this short...I drove 4x4 Fords my entire life. I got a wild hair and decided to sell my Ford and get a Tacoma. I bought a used 2005 double cab TRD SPORT W/ 3" lift on it. Anyway I went hunting this past weekend and ended up on some bad muddy trails and in the process I bent all but one of my rims (before I go any further let me just say that this 4 x 2 Tacoma made it through more shit than my 4x4 Ford would have ever made it through. I am a firm believer in Tacomas now) so anyway I need to buy new rims. The tires I have on the truck are 285/70/17
I have been looking online to get new rims but really don't know much about offset and rim width and all that. The rims on there now are moto metal and they are 6 lug. How do I determine what rim will fit my truck and currently the tires I have now?

well I don't think pics would do any justice. I can't see anything wrong with them, but my tire place that I use (and I know them pretty well, so I don't think he'd bullshit me, but who knows) they told me my rims were bent and I needed new ones. my truck started to vibrate pretty bad so I thought my tires just needed to be balanced. the guy called me and he said my rims were bent so bad he couldn't even balance them.

My problem is that im trying to buy some online and not sure what size I need. my tire is 285/70/R17
im just curious as to what size rims I can fit on my truck and still use these same tires. I tried google but didn't find out much info

I found this online for a 2005 prerunner
    265/65R17 8.5Jx17 ET2 6x139.7

on my tire it also says 8.5J X 17 (im not sure what the J means)
also, im assuming the 6 x 139.7 would be my bolt pattern?

I really REALLY doubt all but one of your rims were bent while off road. If you were in a lot of mud I'd bet dried mud is unbalancing your rims and tires long before I'd suspect 3 bent rims.

I thought the same thing. but I cleaned my truck and got all the mud off the rims and tires. including on the inside of the rim before I took it to the shop. it really wouldn't surprise if they are bent though, it wasn't just mud I was going through. it flooded that weekend and it was hard to see how deep some of those pot holes were. I hit some pretty bad holes at a pretty good speed. I found some rims I think I may get, these are the specs. what does the 4.30" MEAN?
    SIZE: 17×8.5 4.30″ BS 6×139.7
