Anyone compared the two to see if it's compatible?

I can't find the thread at the moment but I believe someone figured they would work. Roof line is identical, just depends if the mounting holes line up.

    dont bother.

spend 20-30 bucks for waterproof led strip lights and mount them under the bed rails.... you get a dedicated constant 12v hot to the bed (super useful if you throw a standard 12v socket back there) and much brighter bed lights.

Advantage of the bed light vs light strips is the bed light can illuminate the area around the back of the truck, such as puddles on the ground at night where it is dark. Bed rail lights will illuminate only the bed. I still cannot believe a 2015 truck does not have this feature.

if you saw the light output of the 3rd gen "bed light" its pointless for the scenario you describe.... Hell the under rail LED lights cast more light out the back of my truck with the tailgate down than the 3rd gen bed light up high.

No experience with the 3rd gen light. But my Colorado bed lights would illuminate when I unlocked the doors with the fob and was a very nice feature for the scenario I describe in rural areas.

I didn't think I even needed a bed light in my 15 until loading a water heater from big box store last night at the late time of 645pm... damn it would be a nice feature especially having to use my phone to pull out the straps from my non water proof storage boxes.... eh, rant over who cares I guess... I need lane departure warning more probably LOL :)

I use my under rail bedlights ALLLLLLLL the time, probably one of the most useful and most used mods i have done to my taco. REALLY handy when i have my roll up bed cover over the bed, or doing ANYTHING in the bed at night. Camping trips.... my truck bed always becomes the hangout spot for making drinks.

yeah my dads 2016 has the bed lights in the brake light, and while they function for the bed, they are aimed pretty much in the bed and are not very bright. Bright enough to get by but id MUCH rather have the under rail bed lights.... if i had a 2016 id still put underrail bed lights on it.
