loss of power

My 2007 Tacoma loses power once in a blue moon when I'm driving it. All of a sudden the truck gas pedal has no power or life into it. I tap it a few times and then it seams to respond. Any body have any thoughts where i should start looking for the problem? It doesn't happen all the time

 

Faulty or misadjusted brake pedal switch, causing the "brake override" feature of the drive-by-wire throttle systen to kick in, limiting you to idle.

Your gas pedal potentiometers could be worn out, causing a poor signal getting to the throttle body. http://www.aa1car.com/library/throttle-by-wire.htm

 

And from your link, if that were the case, the check engine light would illuminate and a fault code would be logged.
ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL FAILSAFE OPERATION

For redundancy backup and failsafe operation, the accelerator pedal usually has two or even three position sensors. In a 2005 Mustang, three sensors are used. Two decrease their resistance (increase voltage) when the pedal is depressed, and the third increases its resistance (decreases voltage). As long as the position sensor signals increase and decrease by the same amount (mirror each other), the circuit is assumed to be working correctly. But if any of the position signals disagree, it indicates a fault and the module sets a code and turns on the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL). On the Mustang, an electronic throttle control fault will also illuminate a little yellow wrench warning light.

OP never mentioned a CEL, so I'm sticking with my theory unless he says otherwise.
