    Good morning all,

First post here, so hopefully you guys can shed a little light on this for me.

My 2013 Tacoma 4-door recently went through a bout of warranty work for water leaking into the cab of the truck from the firewall/wheelwell area. The dash was pulled, leak was found and fixed (hopefully). The dealership I brought it to said the insulation was changed out and the carpet was disinfected, but about a week later that nice, musty odor developed.

I brought the truck back to the dealership expecting them to try the "clean/disinfect" route again, but they decided to replace the carpet all together (according to the service manager, the service adviser said they just replaced the insulation).

Now here is where I'm a little confused. I never really paid a hell of a lot of attention to my carpet prior to this, but now I'm going over it with a fine tooth comb. I have the OEM carpet floor mats...the fronts use the twist clip to retain the mat, and the rears have a button/snap. However now, the rear floor mats have nothing to button/snap to. I could have sworn that there was some kind of retention for the rear mats, or am I going crazy? I'm going to be calling the dealership again today, but I don't want to chase something that I'm not 110% sure on.

    Thanks in advance.

I seem to remember it being some kind of strap that attaches underneath the rear seat. Is that right or is it actually made into the carpet?

I can probably count on one hand the amount of times I rode in the back seat of my truck, so I'm a little fuzzy on how it looked.

Is the snap integrated into the carpet or is it a strap of some kind?

My 15 mats have snaps on them but my carpet does not. Maybe a design change whereas the new design does not have snaps in the carpet now???

    moondeath, EXACTLY!

Does anybody happen to know the "official" Toyota name for those? I've been looking online and can't seem to find them.

It may not be something that can be purchased seperate from the mat. I would imagine that it's something that comes attached to the mat from the factory, and for whatever reason they got a mat that didn't have the snap installed.

Having said that, maybe if you cant find one online you could find one in a salvage yard.

The problem I'm having is that I had the straps/snaps prior to the dealership changing my carpet...now they're gone.

I have a 2013 and mine came with them, most Tacomas should come with those straps.
I feel that they are only used for OEM weather type carpets.
Just ask the dealer, they should be able to get them and install them.

I see you said the advisor said they just replaced the insulation. Do you feel any holes where the snap use to be. There should be 2 spots where plastic rivets went through. If there aren't any, then it would seem they replaced the carpet. If there are, they removed the strap and forgot to put it back on.

If the dealer didn't install them on the new carpet, talk to the service manager. It's a simple fix. The longest part will actually be waiting for the part(s) to arrive, if they don't have them in stock.

I just went and checked...I can't feel any holes where the rivets would snap into, but then again I'm trying to feel through carpet.

At least now I KNOW that something was there, so I can tell the manager that they forgot them.

Thanks for all the help guys, definitely liking this forum!

I went to the dealership yesterday afternoon and talked to their parts department first, to get the part number (51965-04030 FYI) and then I talked to the service department. They still had my old carpet, so they went and pulled the old snaps off of that. They then said it would "take a few hours"...I just requested to get the old parts and I'll take care of it myself. They didn't seem to mind one bit, lol.

So they did replace your carpet. Atleast they got your parts back to you, and you have a nice new carpet.

I was hoping they would change it out in the first place, then it reached the point of "I don't care what you do, just get me my truck back without the smell". It shouldn't be too hard to put the rear mat snaps in either, so that's a plus.

Thanks for all the help guys! :bikewheelie:
