I have a '16 Tacoma SR5 with the TSS package which comes with upgraded 17" tires. However, the spare is a 16" tire. Is this a problem?

Not a problem if using as a spare... throw it on and drive to a tire shop. I wouldn't want to do any long distance/off road or racing with it.

Not for the few miles you'd have to drive it to get the 17" tire fixed/replaced. They've been putting in undersized spares on cars for years. Just don't drive more than necessary on it - get the bigger tire fixed.

Light bar and bumper guard, 3/16 steel skid plates for engine, tranny and transfer box, OME 881 springs with 5100 shocks at mid clip. AAL in rear. Positraction rear diff.
I would take it back to the dealer and demand a 17 inch spare to match.

I appreciate the advice. I think I'll ask the dealership about it.

Good luck with that one. They'd look you directly in the eye and laugh. It's a spare... not a matching wheel setup.

I have to go tomorrow to have leather installed - might as well bring it up. Where in SE TN? Have family in Johnson City.

Considering you're already going to the dealership, it wouldn't hurt to ask. I wouldn't get my hopes up though because most models probably come with that standard spare. Check under some more '16's at the lot while they install the leather to confirm. I'm in Chattanooga. I do have some relatives in Johnson City though.

The question is the overall diameter of the tire/wheel package.

Maybe someone will tell us the size of the tire and it can get run through the tire calculator.

I'll wager your spare is very close to the same diameter as the units on the ground.

If I'm correct, the size of the wheel is inconsequential when being used in a 'spare' situation.

In the last few decades very few vehicles have come with full sized, much less matching wheel, spares. Be glad someone hasn't tried to fit the truck with run flats and eliminate the spare all together.

All that really matters is the overall tire diameter. Comparing a 245/75-16 and 265/65-17 - they are virtually the same.
