i just purchased a 2016 Tacoma that came with a tonneau cover. I have dogs, so I need to get a topper and don't need the tonneau cover. It attaches to the bed with special pins that are embedded in the bed rails. Does that mean I can't sell it because it will only fit on beds that have those pins (which probably came with their own tonneau cover)?

I'm sure you will have no problem selling it to a fellow Tacoma owner. I put a A.R.E shell on mine, the V series, really liking it, but not as much as my dogs do. Good luck.

Someone said in another thread that each pin is held by 2 torx screws and are easily removed within minutes. I listed my tonneau cover on craigslist and plan to sell them eith the pins.

One of the issues is that the factory cover required the rail cap to have large notches cut out. 4 of them. So, the install is a lot more involved and quite honestly will ruin the rail. I wish you luck in trying to sell it. Aftermarket is the way to go where there is no cutting or drilling required. I think most Tacoma owners will have figured this out too.

I ended up selling it to a guy with a new off-road model. I thought we could just swap plastic rails, but he said his truck didn't come with plastic rails, which makes no sense to me. I sold him the cover and the pins, but not the rails. We'll see... I told him if it doesn't work out correctly he could return the cover and get his money back.

If you sell it, you need to arrange rail cap swap also. It will be much easier for both parties involved.

The pins were pretty easy to remove. Didn't take long at all.
