Cold air intake

Anyone come across an aftermarket cold air intake yet for the 2016 3.5L? And yes I used the search feature on this site, but I couldn't find any info.

Gotcha. I was just thinking with a cold air intake and aftermarket exhaust I may be able to increase the horsepower a bit. What do you think?

I have an "aftermarket" system? Silly me I thought that was the factory system. Some nice person must have installed it for free without me knowing.

 

Even if one was available, it will be overpriced for the first year or so.

I've had CAI's on multiple cars. 99% are not worth the money. The good ones, that actually DO offer a decent HP gain, usually require a tune and are pretty pricey.

 

Yes the truck already comes with a Cold Air Intake system from the Factory

 

What situation have you been in where the power was not adequate?

 

No situations yet. But if getting more power is possible then that's what I want. That's what every guy wants right? Haha.

 

Little more intake sound and a thinner wallet is what you will gain.

I'd like to have an aftermarket intake to improve the in cabin engine sound a bit

 

I'm a muscle car guy and I still never understand the desire for more noise INSIDE the vehicle...I even specifically picked an exhaust that was quite at cruising RPM's lol

 

My G8 is ungodly loud. Exhaust wont sound good on this 3.5 tacoma, so a CAI is the best I can get.

 

What about tuners. Is this even a thing anymore? A computerized mapping device for power, mpg, torque, etc.

don't get me wrong, my GTO is one loud bish when I slam the throttle and or start it up. My neighbors used to hate the few times I had to start it up at 6:00 A.M. for work (luckily only 1-2 times a month). But its nice and quiet with no drone at cruising speed. Made a couple 800 mile road trips in it with no complaints from the wife.

 

Mines quiet at cruising speed too. 1 7/8 kooks to full corsa. Heads, cam, stall, intake manifold my, throttle body, cold air intake. Buts it'll make your ears bleed behind the car at WOT with a nice growl inside.

I want some of this growl in my taco. I know a good sounding exhaust simply isn't going to happen

 

Haven't driven the frs but when I drove the tc. The throttle response and rev hang was terrible. I have a 08 civic si and it was just as bad. Bought the flash pro to reprogram ecu . Throttle Lag was gone( I have DBW, felt like drive by cable after reflash ). Rev hang was reduced. Engine idled smoother and it gave me more power. And when you add exhuast and aftermarket intake system. You can chsnge the mapping on the ecu to adjust for it optimizing your bolt ons. It Would be nice if the 16 Tacoma will eventually be able to do that.

As far as "factory cold air intake", they are still restrictive. The only real way to replace with aftermarket cold air intake and make gains is to fabricate a heatshielded tubing from the intake routed to the front part of the truck that gets the most cool airflow. The tubing will have to be a diy fabrication. But then your exposing it to water intrusion and the filter will get dirty a lot quicker. <---not ideal and the gains are so minimal.

You have 2 good options. Buy a k&n or aem dry flow filter (if they make one) and use stock intake. Or wait for the k&n aftermarket intake system. They design theirs with heat shield and integrates with your factory airflow ducts. Even then. Heatsoak is still n issue so you'll see your Tacoma run better when it's cool versus hot outside. A spacer between the intake manifold and block would help too.

When it comes out. I'm going to buy the k&n system. Not so much becuase I think I'll get HP gains, becuase I won't kno if I will. But hoping my truck will sound better.
