Just wait until some a-hole in a Colorado/Canyon or Frontier decides to pull a bulldozer with his piss-ass little truck and you'll understand why Toyota doesn't want to go there.

    BADDA-BING, BADDA-BOOM!!

A successful diesel Tacoma needs 2 things.

    1. a ton of torque (diesels don't rev the same so you need power from torque to get your ass moving)
    2. 30% better MPG (because around here diesel fuel costs 20-25% more than gasoline and a diesel engine will be pricey)

You're right, my mistake. Today the prices are $1.89 reg, and $2.29 diesel. 21% higher. At it's worst diesel was around $4.40 and about 50% higher than gasoline at that time.

    I amended my other post.

Not nearly as much as they will ask for it. GMC gets $3700+ or $5600+ upcharge (depending on other options) for their 2.8L Duramax Turbo-Diesel I4. It makes
    • 181 hp @ 3,400 rpm, 369 lb-ft of torque @ 2,000 rpm

It is looking like a $5600 upcharge for the 4WD, and a $6,600 for the 2WD. Tried taking off options, but you don't get the diesel then.

If you're not willing to pay for it why push Toyota to make a diesel? This is exactly why Toyota won't come out with one...if you're not going to buy it they won't produce it. (and why I believe the Tacoma will still outsell the duramax twins and Cummins frontier).

I was in favor of Diesel engines. The mileage and simplicity of the engine looked good to me. About two months ago I heard news reports that said Paris and London were experiencing "thousands of premature deaths a year" due to the proliferation of diesel car engines, which European governments have promoted for the past 30 years.
I think the diesel engine in the U.S. will come under increased scrutiny because of the Europeans 30 year experience.

Until they reduce the health risks associated with diesel exposure I won't be buying one period.

I think a midsize truck having a diesel is stupid. If you need a diesel, you need a full-size.

Haha, "thousands of premature deaths a year". That's some scientific shit right there.

Recent studies show that diesels are awesome. There, it's has to be true.

Edit: sorry for name calling and insults but please Blue, knock the nonsense off, I have owned the shitty Kia's years ago but we have now owned 5, 3 out of 5 had ZERO issues for over 100k, yea I don't think 500k would have flown like a few Taco's have but for Gods sake give it a rest, Please for the holidays at least
