I hate all black wheels/rims. I think they look like steel wheels with a missing hubcap. Just my opinion. But i love black and alloy wheels. I currently have the stock 17" alloy's on my truck. They are nice wheels but they def leave something to be desired visually. I see a lot of posts about painting them all black.
I drew something up in paint and wondered if anyone has ever painted just part of their wheel? Keep in mind that i draw like a 4 year old and by no means an artist. But it gives a crude look at what i would like to potentially do.
So the question... Has anyone done this? If yes, do you have any pictures? Furthermore, advice on what i would need besides a good wheel spray paint, some tape, and possibly sandpaper?
Or, would i just be better off purchasing a completely new set of rims and selling my stock wheels?

Seen this done well on other marquees. In your example, I'd leave the lip silver as well.

use something easily removable like plastidip to experiment with. When you get the pattern you like, then go to the effort to change to paint.

In general, I agree with you. All black is overplayed.

Painted mine when 1st got my taco. On my nephews truck now .Used Auto paint clear coat base coat. Masking is a pain in the ass. Took me over 4 hours just to mask but results came out good.

I hate to resurrect an old thread, but has anyone done the opposite, black spokes with silver inside?
I've been searching for a picture but cannot find one.

    Thanks

I had my FJ wheels refurbished last summer, and went with black instead of the OEM color. I love the new look. OEM fit with a custom look. IMAG5470.jpg

And I did the exact same thing as you did. Take a picture and color it and see how it looks. I even took my pictures to the place that did the refurb so they knew exactly what I wanted.

Yeah, everyone sees things different, but it's very hard to imagine how anyone could look at those dark, drab, solid black, no contrast wheels & not be able to see how much better Rocketball's black & silver wheels look. To me, his are as nice, no the nicest, wheel & tire combo I've seen on any Tacoma. Congrats man, you did waaay great. You've had these pictures on here before, I still remember from a couple of months back. Glad to see them again.

AWRS did the "remanufacturing" of my wheels last summer. They have franchise locations all over the US. The total job for my 4 rims cost me $650, and you can pick from a bunch of "in stock" colors.

All I did was drop off my truck, and 2 days later picked it up. The price included dismounting, cleaning, stripping, minor repairs, powder coating, diamond cutting the exposed face of the rim, remounting and balancing.

They also have an option where you can just drop off the rims. My local franchise has sales every once and while and I got in on one of those and it saved me a bunch of money.

Here's a link to the company that did mine last summer: https://www.awrswheelrepair.com/
