Hey boys, sorry if this has been answered but I have been browsing for a couple of days now. I just got a Double Cab 5 lug short bed and just don't like the way it sits. It just seems kind of wimpy to me. I went to Tire Rack to find new wheels and found some 17s I like for a good price but don't know anything about TPMS. They want an extra $200 or so. Do I need it? Can I just transfer mine? Will I need a lift or will the extra 2" help the stance out. Sorry if this has been asked before, like I said I a new to the site and truck. From what I can tell you guys have a wealth of knowledge and anything would be appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome to the club, brotha! When I got my new wheels on, the TPMS from the stock wheels didn't fit the new wheels unfortunately. I honestly do not mind not having it on my wheel, other than the light being on, but that can be fixed with some electrical tape, haha. I personally don't think it is necessary, a lot of old vehicles do not have them and if you just look at your tires every once in a while to see if any of them are sagging and flat, then you'd be good. That's just my two cents.

Next, for fitment, this is where it gets a little stressful. First, will the wheels clear the break caliper mounts? Even with the correct lug pattern, it does not necessarily mean that it will fit right on. If it does not clear the calipers, a small spacer would be needed to have the wheels clear them -- or you can use a dremel tool and ground them down. So say the wheels fit and clear the caliper mounts, you would need to factor in the tire size, in combination with the wheels to see if it would cause rubbing. If it does in fact rub, a small lift would be needed. What is the backspace and offset of these wheels and how big are the tires that you want to mount them on? A lot, but not all, wheel/auto shop will mount the wheels to your truck and tires for like a test fit. I recommend doing that. One last thing to keep in mind is the bore width of the wheels. The bore width of our trucks are 60.1mm, I believe. If you get wheels with a bore width of, lets say, 83.01mm like mine, it is recommended you get hub centric rings - which can either be expensive or cheap as hell. This is to prevent vibrations when going at higher speeds and making your wheels hub centric, instead of lug centric.

Soooooooooo in conclusion, I recommend you do like a test fit on the new wheels you want to see if it fits. If it doesn't clear the calipers, a small spacer or some grounding will be necessary. If it does clear, but causes rubbing on the wheel well with the tires on, a small lift would be recommended. If the wheels do fit and does not rub the wheel well, but the bore width are of a different size, hub centric rings are recommended to prevent vibration.

Best of luck and please let me know if there are any questions what I just said and I'll be glad to help - along with other 5-lug owners :)
