That's a really fun concept. Takes the typical magazine "long term" test (about a year?) to the next step.

That has always been my argument. I have owned a Chevy with 150,000 miles on it, a GMC with 120,000 miles on it, and a Ford Ranger with 120,000 miles on it prior to now owning a Tacoma that currently has 201,000 miles on it. The 16 year old Tacoma looks fresh as a daisy compared to any of my previous vehicles and has had WAY fewer problems than any of them. You can say anything you want about initial quality and value, but if one vehicle breaks down a half dozen times between year 5 and 7 and you have to replace a bunch of parts like starters, alternators, water pumps, AC compressors etc. between 80k and 120k; while the other is steady as a rock for that same period, then the whole value and quality proposition gets turned on its ear.

Do some honest testing of the vehicle at 100-120k miles and tell us what the original parts content is at that point.

I agree, even the mags that do 40,000 mile "long term" tests are still under warranty the whole time. Kind of useless for those who keep their cars for the long run, but I guess by the time they get done with the test the model wouldnt be relevant anymore.

I don't really care what the magazines say. Yes, GM has improved greatly over the years but I would never own one except for the new C7 Vette(such a sexy car). Don't know why I don't like GM...maybe bc I grew up in a Ford household. But award or not, I'm really enjoying my new Tacoma!

I just threw up in my mouth a little.... The chevy luv & the vega & the gas block "diesel" GM put out were THE biggest pieces of shit that ever rolled off an assembly line, as a matter of fact the combination of the 3 almost put GM on the mat for good, you were lucky if you got 40k out of either of them..

Motor Trend just can't accept that Toyota is a better truck. They like everything American and can't accept something made in Mexico is better.
