have a 2000 sr5 4x4. already got a lift and bigger tires. unfortunetly i didnt get the TRD model so mine didnt come with a differential locker. i went to 4wheel parts and when discussing about getting an ARB air locker they suggested that if i were only buying one (which for someone working part time and going to school full time is all i can afford), that i should get it for my front axle. i have heard somewhere on here that it would be a bad idea to get one for IFS front end. anyone have any experience or suggestions?

I would install the locker in the rear. You'll still be able to steer when it's engaged and the rear axles are stronger than the front.

I had a detroit locker in the front on my Jeep. At full lock sometimes it would skip the tires, but that was rare. Never noticed it any other time except on the trails where it was REALLY effective.
That was, of course, a bit stronger front axle than our IFS setup.

How did this go from ARB to Detroit locker? Not even compareable

I have no reason to install a different rear locker other than my factory one correct? Like my factory one is good enough to do whatever I need it to do?

Sorry, long day at work. Must have misread.
Better input: I'd put the ARB in the rear. Steering and strength of IFS are both major concerns.

Also, be wary of spending all of your budget on the locker and onboard air. Nobody likes having a broken truck without the money or time to fix it.
If you do choose the ARB, do it right the first time. A bad install will mean rebuilding a few times over the life of the locker.

ok. have you ever really needed it? i can imagine it would come in handy alot, but if i can manage with just the 4wd for awhile id rather put the money into new suspension
