My truck was vandalized early this morning.

Shot with a BB gun on the left rear quarter panel, the tail gate and the left tail light.

Filed a police report and had the insurance adjuster come out to file a claim and inspect the damage. He estimated it at $1,409 to repair the dents, paint, replace the decals and the tail light. The tail light still works, but I do need to get it fixed ASAP. But my deductible is $1,000, so I'm only getting $409 from insurance.

What do you guys think about he rest of the damage? Some of the BB strikes look like they have gone through the paint and dented the metal underneath. Is this going to be a rust hazard?

Wow. SOBs. I would assume that something like this would occur if left untreated.

I have a suspect. If I had definitive proof that person would be in jail right now. And if I were to take "other actions", I would end up in jail.

Yeah, I'm not happy. But can't do much about it right now.

What is that? Looks like someone just used touch up paint on the surface and then it started to rust out underneath the paint?

Image pulled from online; not the most clear.

Yes, something like that. Once rust begins forming in the metal, I would worry about it spreading to the paint immediately next to it.

I've had good luck going to local auto body shop. Tell him the story and how much you have to spend. They can usually hide some of the Deductible. i.e Used tail light, etc.

That sucks. Like others, I am betting that is ~900 out of pocket if you are up front with a good body shop. Definitely get it repaired one way or another.

Take it to a body shop. See how much they can fix it for. It probably won't be less than your deductible, but that definitely needs to get fixed. You can probably find a used tail light in a junk yard or in the buy/sell/trade section. That might help bring down your cost a bit. The rust can start to bubble the paint in the surrounding areas if left untreated.

Edit: Found one on ebay for 68 bucks if that helps

Wow, that sucks, OP. I agree with the local body shop suggestion. You may be able to get the bedside repainted and a used tail light for less than $1k.

Can't have anything nice. Good luck OP. You could always patch the chips/dents up with touch up paint if you can't get to the body shop immediately. Just be sure to clean the surface before applying it. I would seek out used tail lights just to see how much that could save you.
