    does anyone else experience this?

As I'm driving in town at as low as 25/30 mph the transmission will shift to 6th gear and the truck becomes very sluggish. If I barely tap the gas it immediately shifts to a lower gear. The truck is always shifting gears while driving in town regardless of what I'm doing with the gas.

I've also noticed the truck will shift gears for the slightest change in road even in cruse control.

This is how Toyota went about trying to address their terrible gas mileage, rather than real advancements other auto makers are putting into their trucks...turbos, direct injection, variable valve timing, active fuel management, etc. Not trying to bash Toyota, and hopefully this engine lives up to their reputation for reliability, but it is what it is.

If you can, the 6spd Manual Transmission is the way to go. I test drove the 3.5L in both transmissions. You won't have these issues that so many people are complaining about the auto. I'm sure they will revise it as complaints pile in, but who knows when. #ManualTransmissionFTW

Yes, only time will tell but I'll stand by Mike Sweers words. He said its a brand new 6spd Manual, so we shall see.

I love going down the road at basically an idle RPM. It's great for helping MPG, quiet, etc...The transmission has 6 speeds, glad they all get used.

But is it good for an engine to be lugging so much?

The Tacoma uses variable valve timing and direct injection. As do 99% of autos nowadays.

It's not lugging. There's no load on the engine. The crazy thing is, is that if you want increase your speed, you just press the throttle pedal further.

I just went out and tried out the S mode and it was a very nice feature. One can limit the highest gear for example 4th gear for town or can shift through all the gears like a manual transmission.

I do hope Toyota does something for the city driving aspects of the transmission.

Another thing I've notice for me that's still taking some getting use to is the sound of the exhaust. I traded my 2012 Tacoma v6 and the exhaust on the 2016 sound very different; louder to me. I can hear the difference when it shifts to a high gear and doesn't nag only 25mph in the city.

The shifting to a haunted go gear probably wouldn't be so bad if it were not for the sound and the fact that one only has to breath on the gas peddle to cause it to down shift. It's like a roller coaster with the gear shifting while driving at low varible speeds.

Yeah, Toyota forgot to put the VVT-I, direct injection, Atkinson cycle...oh wait. Thankfully they didn't go turbo, I think that's the worst idea in a long time personally.

Fuelly shows the Colorado is getting about 20mpg, while the Tacoma is averaged at 19.

Meanwhile the Colorado V6 uses 343 gears in the rear end and the Tacoma is 430!!!! Open your eyes!!

They should have used 8 gears in the auto.

mine takes more than a "barely tap" to get it to downshift. have to put my foot in it then it revs way up, annoying. should not be shifting into 6th gear for around town driving. comparing it to my 2008 trd i was not happy then started using S mode now happy camper. would think at some point they will address the issue and reprogram the shift points.

I drive an E90 BMW M3 with the competition package. This is a car with a 420 horsepower V8 that revs to 8,400 rpm. Dual clutch transmission. Gets to 60 in 4 seconds. Just checked as I was in my neighborhood. It was in 7th year at 30 mph. Not sure what gear a car is in at 30 mph has to do with anything.

Were you towing a 3rd gen tacoma at the same time?

Clearly the gear choices of the automatics cause satisfaction issues for many. We need paddles on the steering wheel. Let's start a petition and find a celebrity to help endorse our cause. Come on guys.
