Ok guys. I had a 14" magnaflow oval exhaust and replaced it today with an original Flowmaster 40. My goal was to get more sound. I did get more sound with the Flowmaster (louder). I do believe that the magnaflow flows better (straight-through), and may be a better "power-adder", although it is probably minimal. Just wanted to ask you guys if either muffler adds any power at all over stock (even if it's minimal), and which you prefer. This is for a 4.0L V6. I can honestly say that the magnaflow was smoother, but had more of a rice burner sound than the flow master. The flow master deepens the sound and is louder. If you are for or against magnaflow/flow master, please tell me why! Thanks guys!

I always used Magnaflow over Flowmaster on any of my V8 vehicles. I'm still running stock exhaust on my V6 Taco.

Lots of posts I've read show Flowmasters don't "flow".

Even in V8 form, there is definately a sound difference between the two. My only exception was that I put Dynoflow Ultra max mufflers on my 1970 (440 powered) Road Runner.

I keep listening to YouTube videos of different mufflers on V6 Taco's, but haven't found one with the deep V8 tone I'm used to.

I had a magnaflow on my 2.7 and like you I wanted a little more noise so I switched to the flowmaster. No science of course it's all just in the butt dyno but it felt to me that the small low HP motor actually benefited from more back pressure. Not sure if it apply to the 4.0 but just sharing my experiance.
