They must have cut the free cable since I have cable internet over the line as I tried it the other da and I only get a clock on the screen. It used to work though I never watched it.

after this season of F1 I will cut the cable and just keep the Internet. That will save $100 easy.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but my gf and i just had this conversation over saving money and cutting cable. She wants an Apple tv, i know nothing about them, and from what i can find on the internet, the details on what shows are available on there are vague at best. She watches the bold and the beautiful, i watch highway through hell, sports ( very little), but what are the options for kids shows? My daughter watches Treehouse, Disney Jr, i imagine any cartoon would suit her though. Are the channels HD?

Apple TV is still subscription based service AFAIK. Like Roku and the others.

I don't think you can watch Tv shows outside of whatever you're subscribed to.

I could've be wrong. My sister has Apple TV and shares password and logins with her friends so they all can watch different networks. I assume that's the extent of its features though. Haven't spent much time with it.

Hell yes. We have a playstation 4 that we use for Netflix and Hulu and we have no regrets. There is always something to watch on one of them. Our cable/internet was $110 a month before we cancelled cable. We have been getting offers since we cancelled to get both for $80. We haven't bitten though, we don't miss it. The only reason it would be worth it is if you watch a lot of ESPN or CNBC, stuff that there is no streaming substitute for.

For any cord cutting endeavor to work, you have to have a source for those things. Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu are 3 of the most popular sources. All of which cost money, but usually sourcing one, two or all of them is still cheaper than a monthly cable/sat bill.

The newest appleTV is cool, and the added benefit of using iTunes to sources tv shows and movies. As of today, no Amazon Prime Videos on appleTV. There are several other products that all have their own uniquenesses.

You need to list the most important shows to you and then see where you can sources them and what they will cost. Sports are almost never available. So hopefully you can get what you want via rabbit ears, or it makes a great excuse to head to the bar for a few hours.

In all honesty, kids shows are top priority, my daughter watches more tv then the Mrs and I combined. The only 9 month old with an 80" tv and gets to pick what's on tv.....

Netflix and Hulu both have a whole kids section. SpongeBob and all that.
