Changed oil today -- The oil filter dumped oil all over the frame (great mess !!!), does anyone have an adaptor or device that I can make to direct the oil away from the frame?
    Thanks
    Roy

filter relocation kit. you'll need to put an extra 2 or 3 extra quarts of oil every oil change though.

or you could get a piece of cardboard and put it between the oil filter drain and any frame parts to direct the flow into the drain pan.

^^^ this. We pay to get our frames coated with nasty, sometimes oil based rust preventatives. This only helps if you ask me.

Since my tool catcher has been removed I don`t really notice this as a problem .

Then most times I manage to drop the filter on my chest anyhow.

I stuff a bunch of paper towels under the filter to absorb the oil released when the filter is removed. I haven't tried punching a hole in the filter yet, maybe next change.

Thanks for the responses, we don't worry too much about rust in this part of Arizona. I will try to see what I can do about a small pan or plastic gallon jug cut down next oil change. In it's infinite wisdom Toyota still needs work to be perfect.

That's what I do. Even a Wal Mart bag works. I loosen the filter then wrap the bag around it and loosen the rest of the way. Then put it upside down onto the drain pan. Just wear gloves if the engine is hot. I didn't spill one drop the last time I changed mine.

What I don't get is, how are you guys having issues? so so long as I drain the oil first from the motor, the oil in the filter doesn't spew out. I mean some does, but nothing that a simple rag cant handle.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
I wouldn't risk that myself. Oil flow is important, and if the relocation kit malfunctions or doesn't work right to begin with, catastrophic engine failure will be on the way.

OP what I do is after installing the new filter, spray the area with brake cleaner and that does the job pretty good.

    +1

but IMO, change that to electronics cleaner or a painters prep clean. same function, but brake cleaner will melt some plastics.

found this out by trying to clean a computers plastic air intake cover. huge mess.............
