So I decided to finally get a 285 spare under my truck, so I'm not stranded some day on the toll road, etc with only a 265 to use. Anywho I got it under there with some bending of the brackets, fits flush, dosent move, etc. My only concern is where it is in proximity to the exhaust (about 1'' from it), thoughts? Dont think its a big deal, just like your guys opinions, otherwise its pretty clear of the trailer hitch and dif and not worried when I flex since I dont offroad it (mall crawler).

Sub'd. I'm eventually gonna need to do this. From your pictures, the exhaust would be my only worry, too.

That looks tight but hey it fits! You can of course monitor the temperature be reaching under and checking that tire by feel. I have an exhaust tip that the chrome is changing color on from the exhaust temps so my thoughts are that it is still pretty hot back there You will want to add another shield on top of what you already have in the picture and/or wrap header thermal wrap around the pipe. It wont be the short drive that gets you but that longer trip when everything has had time to get good and hot...then things could get entertaining.

I was thinking heat wrap, too, but it's already so close that I wonder if a couple of layers of heat wrap may make it touch.

I haven't had any issues with it and I've had a 33" spare since day one. I think you will be fine
