Crawled under the truck today to grease the driveshaft zerks and noticed one of my heat shields rattles. Tried to tighten the nuts down and snapped the studs right off the body. Had I realized that would happen I would have loosened them and added a washer. Because I snapped two out of the three off, I took the whole thing off because it can't hold itself up at that point.

This is the shield on the passenger's side just behind the transfer case. I think it's the longest one under there. Should I try to reattach these studs somehow and put the shield back on or is it not worth the trouble?

Heat shields are generally good things. I'd source one from a junkyard if yours is not easily repaired.

The shield itself is fine. The studs that attach to the body of the truck are no longer there. I have the studs, but not sure how to attempt to reattach them.

Gotcha. Well I dunno then. How do the studs attach?

Looks like the studs were welded there, but with the tiny amount of force it took for them to snap off the body, I doubt it was actually weld.

Got a pic of the remaining stud? And maybe of where the studs used to be?

I assume you're out of warranty.

I will grab a picture tomorrow. I was thinking about JB Weld, just wasn't sure if it would be strong enough. Though wherever was holding it to begin with wasn't great so I am sure it couldn't be worse.

Could it be welded back in place?

I've seen (on other marquees) SS hose clamps successfully used to mount the shield.

Go to a Good weld shop. They should have a Stud Gun to weld new studs in place. It should only take a few minutes and be fairly cheap. No idea as to the actual cost.
