    Hey everyone!!!

I am finally bagging my SUV for a Tacoma. I am super excited but need some advise before putting my deposit down.

I am going to be doing city driving as well as Utah driving. I am not an "off roader" in the way I don't just go drive over sand hills and rock for fun.

I need this truck to get me to trailheads, explore BLM lands...drive over red clay roads, DEEP sand...rocky terrain, etc as well as be my main car.

I do want a 4 door, extended 6 foot bed.

I am looking at that off road package. Thoughts on off road vs the Sport for my application?

The 2016 has that crawl mode which looks great but $$ to fix if breaks?

I would be happy to purchase a used but it seems between the 4 door and longer bed...just can't find it!

    thank you all!

Get a 2nd gen, 2005 - 2015, theyve been around longer and theres a lot more support. Im not trying to knock on the new 3rd gen its just new and hus no kne knows how it will act in the long term. If I were in your shoes Id buy a 2nd Gen just so I know Im getting my moneys worth.

thank you! I would love to save the money. Seems the one I want is like a unicorn though.

Did they call the off road package something different in years past?

The off road package is technically called the TRD package. Theres also variants on the TRD package, Im not exactly sure what all of them currently are. Try google.

If your going into "DEEP sand", I would suggest getting TRD offroad. The locking rear and a-trac front diffs will keep you out of trouble. You'd probably be fine without it, but it's nice to have in a pinch.

thanks for the tip! Spent a lot of time this weekend looking into it. Still very mixed on it

It will 80% be a road car but when I go off road I like this specific area in Utah that has sections of deep sand...and I want to be able to cruise all around those roads.
