Just some dumb regular crap everyone else has
Thanks, I will surely keep that in mind. Even though the warranty is Toyota, the refund is strictly a dealer thing. The paper work for the coverage is Toyota, the refund paperwork was only valid at that dealer and I'm sure there are some caveats as you mentioned. I would have gotten it even if they didn't offer a refund because I felt that the price was decent.

Ok. I wasn't there so I can't say for sure, but I'm thinking you got lied to.

My finance guy said the exact same thing to me; "It will only add $5 to your payment."

    In my case:
$5 over the life of a 36 month loan at 3.99% comes to $169. Even factoring in the warranty refund I have coming to me for the trade-in, that's still an absurdly low number for the price of the warranty.

    It's not rocket surgery.

    I'm calling shenanigans.

So- is there definitive info around here that says buying from a out of state dealer is GTG? in other words my local Toyo dealer wont be able to give me greif/refusal to repair because the contract wasnt done thru them or even my state?

I decided to move forward on this, only a few months left on my 36/3yr factory &been in contact with Toby recently, also saw some talk on Toyotanation Forum about him and have yet to see any bad feedback. Want the 8yr/75K, I think its about $800.... Whats the worst that can happen, not chumpchange but yet not thousands of$$$ either.

Where is a good resource to find places to get pricing? Also, if you put a lift on after purchasing the warranty, does that void it?

My warranty was included with the sale for free. The dealership did it on my 2008 Tundra and my 2014 Tacoma. The mileage limit is 999,999 miles. Aftermarket parts do not void a warranty unless part is the reason something else failed.

The great thing about these plans, if you sell your vehicle before it is paid off you should be able to request a refund on the warranty, that is what I did when 4-5 yrs ago I had a Nissan, I paid 1100 for the warranty and drove the vehicle for 2 yrs and sold and rec'd a check from the warranty company for 600.00...to me that was well worth the piece of mind.

Thanks for posting your transaction followup. I am not in the market for VSC but we do see this come up often here on TW, nice to know they are still available at decent prices. I purchased 3 from Jerry at Midwestern back in tne day but he no longer sells to out of state buyers (not sure but I think Toyota required they be purchased from state in which you bought vehicle). I called him to get price for Ford VSC for my daughter as he can sell these out of state but even with his pricing cost was significantly higher than Toyota's, another plus for the Tacoma.

Thread revival! Is this an aftermarket warranty or a Toyota warranty? After talking with two dealers, apparently there are dealers who sell MPP (aftermarket), and dealers who sell the Toyota one.

This is the Toyota Vehicle Service Plan (VSP). I haven't ever gone with aftermarket and think they're too subjective in what they cover, but will make the salesman more commission.
But with the VSP it's in their system; when I had a claim on my Highlander a couple years back (o2 sensor failure) the dealer saw the VSP in the record, and covered it. Done. Otherwise close to $500.00 out of pocket.

Bad News...., been on the RAV4 Thread; apparently Toby Rivers is no longer allowed to sell Toyota VSP's via internet/phone. AFAIK he's been the only out-of-state alternative for discounted Toyota VSP's. The other alternative is to haggle real hard at the dealer to get close to his prices.....

Yes, while you are buying the vehicle is the only time you have leverage with the ECP pricing. Negotiate an on-the-road price which includes the plan you want at the type of discount offered prior to Toyota becoming pricks on this - any BS about the sales manager having to make this decision, tell the person if they want to sell the vehicle get it on the purchase paperwork or else you walk. Give them five minutes. Or less.

although a service plan or extended warantee cant (it seems) be purchased over the phone or internet, you might be able to buy one in person at any dealership. A 200 mile trip would be worth it. A search thru these posts/threads would probably give a bunch of names of sales people who use to do it.

All Toyota Dealers sell the genuine Toyota Vehicle Service Plan. Some also sell aftermarket which is more of a buyer beware item. ALWAYS ask if this is a toyota service plan sold by Toyota Financial Services. It is sold thru the finance guy; he's the one you'll have to haggle with, along with offers for tire and wheel protection, maintenance plans, etc.. And maybe be prepared to walk out to 'think about it'.
If interested, give them a bottom line compared with Toby's price. If he was able to make a profit so will your dealer. So take Toby's VSP figure and add 50 to $100 dollars and stick with it.

No, I've been to several in my area, and not all do. But Toby does not sell them anymore over the phone. I guess I could get a price, then drive there, but it's pretty far from where I am.
