450 lbs. Rides better with the weight back there. My pickup is so lightweight in the back I thought this was a good idea.

Many years ago, I moved from sunny southern California to Michigan. The first winter I put 250lbs in the bed of my truck for better traction. I was going down a hill (slight incline) and spun 180, wound up sliding backwards down hill, but than again I was a dumb Californian driving in snow.

We have a lot of snow here. Grew up learning to drive in winter weather. Without the weight on the interstate the rear likes to spin out, sending you in the ditch. The weight helps tremendously. Plus - I don't spin out as much. I try to equalize the weight over axle the best I can. That's why SUV s are superior in snowy conditions. More equalized. With my truck being high that works against me to. I have the weight over my axle in a box holding it in place. Works like a charm!

I have an older style fiberglass topper thats pretty heavy, I've camped under it in the summer and kept it in the winter thinking it helped with traction. Bought it cheap for one summer thinking I would get rid of it but it's still on my truck years later.

Do you carry Salt in your bed often??

His bags are sand once it gets cold out they will freeze solid

Weight in the bed makes a big difference .

my bad on the sand... i just saw ''traction tech'' and assumed it was salt/ice melt... weight does make a huge difference in traction for sure. esp. in these little trucks since 450 is 10+ percent of the trucks weight and it being over the axle makes a large percent increase in traction.

You guys think 250lbs is enough? 400 seems like a lot I used to put 400ish in my f150

I think so. I took some bags out. I'm trying 360 now. I also have a 5 leaf pack but I have no idea what it is. Almost looks like 2 add a leafs. Stock suspension would definitely require less weight.
