I want to protect some of the parts from rust. I am planning on cleaning any existing rust off then coating them with some sort of spray like rhino liner. Is this the right way to do it? And any recommendations on types of "liner"?

if it's rust your dealing with, find the threads about rusty frames/chassis and make sure that doesn't apply to you. they will talk up and down about how the rust problem on the chassis is internal and not external. if you have no internal chassis rust issues, then good. you already pretty much have the right idea on what to do.

bedliners are the best to use since they're so strong. I live in the so cal desert so i don't worry about rust. however, recently, I had a bout with a squeaky noise that ended up being my center support. during this bout, I used rubberized undercoating on anything that could cause this kind of noise. the leaf springs, the crossmember holding up my spare tire, some heat shields around my exhaust, the crossmember holding my tranny mount, and even the rockguard under my engine. now that I fixed my center support after the fact, my truck is now like 80% quieter!

in lieu, bedlinders offer great protection. but rubberized undercoating offers quietness. use both if you can afford to :)

as far as which bedliner to use, I recommend raptor liner. as a paint supplier, I saw people order more of this than anything through us. it was a very simple and dependable system to use. that's all. zolatone has a better and more durable system if you want. little more complex, but it's stronger and offers different colors. duplicolor, herculiner, and rhinoliner are all in competition with each other and don't really offer anything over the others unlike zolatone and raptor liner.

NO internal rust I already had my frame replaced just trying to protect skid plates struts and other semi-important pieces.
