Hello all. Been getting more involved with my vehicles over the last few years. I've been running a 95 plymouth Voyager I acquired from family since I was in high school in 2007. It's been a great vehicle for me (because it works) and I'm sure I've abused it through lack of maintenance and whatnot over the years. I'm finally in a full time position and looking to get a new truck with a little cargo capacity and utility, it seems like Tacomas have quite a following. The truck I'm looking at purchasing is (I belive) a 2010 Tacoma that's been used by my previous company. I assume it's a 2010 (it's around there, if not a 2010, probably a 2011 model) because that would mean a 5 year warranty is up and that's why they're selling it. From what I understand, they haven't run it very hard, probably pulled a few boats with it now and again, but mostly just light transport of merchandise and small whatnots. It's got 98,000 miles, and they're asking $8000 for it (though I think as a former employee/connection with the person in charge of selling it I can get it for a bit cheaper just to get the process over with). Obviously I want to know, is this in general a good price, but also, what should I be looking for when buying a Tacoma? Are there any danger spots that may have been neglected that could be deal breakers for a purchase? Any sounds I should listen for? Cables I should wiggle? Parts that should move but may not? Parts that should not move but do? And any areas particularly prone to rust (as I live and this truck has worked in the Florida Keys for the past 6 years possibly)? Questions I should ask?

I don't do much offroading or anything like that, but I may like to tow a small boat in the future or at least put a rack on top for kayaks. Looking forward to being much more involved with this vehicle and hopefully helping it take care of me for many years to come if you all advise I should pull the trigger. Thanks all and glad to be here.

That is not a crazy price for yr/mileage by any means...........unless it has really really been abused. You can tell if it is 2011 by the grill. That yr was only one with honeycomb grill with big wrestler champion belt looking strip across the center. Like this..............

welcome aboard - go gitcha one............

Spent some time on Cudjoe. Love it there. If I could afford it I'd love to have a place on Cudjoe Bay.

Yeah I've been asking for horror stories from former staff (I didn't work on that particular property), and haven't come up with much besides "The bossman used to use it as his personal smoking area while at work". Something I can definitely live with if the price is right. We used ours for pulling our light boats, hauling propane tanks (legal? who knows), and trimming tall trees from the bed and moving gear around. Honestly not sure what this truck was used for, they didnt' seem to do as much labor work like we did. I would guess it was mainly abused by college kids working a summer job and not giving a shit, but beyond fender benders (which I haven't heard of), I can't imagine they did much damage. Looking like a good deal so far...

Yep I used to work for the Scouts on the west end of Summerland, this truck is from Islamorada. Summerland and Cudjoe are truly gems. Not the "Old Keys", but they have so far managed to stay residential and not turn into Key Largo or Key West. Some of my best days tarpon fishing were spent staked out in Cudjoe Bay.

Love that bay. A lot of barracuda on those flats though.
I landed my personal best 45 lb bull dolphin trolling near American Light, while staying on Cudjoe.
