I saw the baja ones, it's a $900 option so I wasn't sure if it was worth it or not (thought maybe I could do it myself) Thanks for the input

Another Casita here. My 02 3.4 liter OR M/T tows it okay. I live in Wyoming so there is a lot of high altitude topography. My next pickup will need more grunt.

Need advice - I have a 2008 dcsb tro off road 4.0. Have had 3 pop ups pulled with mini vans. Have a 22 ft pontoon also and taco pulls fine. Now momma and I want to try a travel trailer. Looking at Jaycos from local dealer, but not sure about pulling weight. Trailers are 24-26 ft long weighing it at 4700-5100 dry. Saw Ike gauntlet you tube pulling 5000 up pass looked like running at 5000 rpms, wow! My area fairly flat except when going to smoky mts. Suggestions needed for trailer weight and length??

My opinion, stay south of 4000# unless you plan to stay on the interstate and out of to many hills. My TT comes in at 4700# dry, my taco pulled it fine up Monteagle on I 24, 3rd gear 4500RPM and 55-60, but it was it could handle on the slow climb to Fall Creek Falls in TN. I broke down and got a Tundra so wouldn't have to worry about what I loaded in our camper. I do not think length is a real issue if you have a good WDH.

I have a '91 Coleman Colorado pop up. It's 6x7 with one pullout bed, a dinette and some storage. Basic, easy to maneuver and stores in my garage. Modified with leaf springs and jeep tires, hardwood floor and more.

Will there be more than you and the wife ? any kids or maybe a dog. Me I stayed under 3500 lbs for a lot of reasons. Do you want to run your truck under full load every time you go camping? Your truck is seven years old treat it with some TLC.

+1. My TT comes in around 3300 lbs dry. I wouldn't want to be towing near max limit for the tacoma all the time.

Thought I would share as well. My wife and I purchased our x-mas present a bit early this year. New Jayco X17Z. 3085 lbs, dry using a EZ Lift WDH with sway control. I was really impressed how great this little truck pulled this trailer home. We are pretty excited to start the camping season a bit early this year!

Pretty cool little trailer, just checked out the interior online.
    Congrats!

The one thing that has always concerned me with the fold down beds like this is how they handle the cold. In cold weather I'm just not sure how well the canvas will keep the cold out. I would think you would have to continually run the heater just to keep it warm.

    It's doable, with added insulation
On our pop up I added 1/2 foil backed insulation under mattresses, have yet to purchase foil lined bubble wrap sheets to line sides of bed canvas, but do have reflective covers for summer sun, in winter use them reflective side down into canvas, look into covers called "popup gizmos" may be ready made for your application

We were able to negotiate the dealer down to 18.1K out the door. This unit was fully loaded with every upgrade outside of the Canada certification, I feel we got a great deal. We chose the hybrid since we still wanted that tent feel with the luxury of the utilities (this is our first TT). The dealer also threw in a free year of Thousand Trails on them. Our first camping trip will be over new years weekend.

Yeah this has always been a concern of mine and just have no experience with pop-ups or drop down beds.

I haven't had any trouble backing with the shell on the truck. Shell has been great.

I have a 2013 Skyline hybrid 16 foot Travel trailer. I've pulled it all over Utah, California and Arizona with my 07 Tacoma 4.0 L prerunner. It does great up to 60 miles per hour. Beyond that the rpm increase fast. My mileage at 60-65 mph is only 11 mpg. Is this typical?

Pic of my 16 foot hybrid trailer. Dry weight is 2700 lbs. The gas mileage is brutal at 11 mpg. Thinking about getting a Tundra. Thoughts? Not sure if it's geared correctly to pull at highway speeds.

I average 9 to 13.5 mpg pulling my TT. It weighs in around 3300 lbs dry. Mostly flat ground out here. I tow in 4 all the time and only run max speed of 60-65 mph. Not sure the Tundra would get much better mpg.
