I put a deposit down on a 2016 Tacoma Limited on October 7th. The dealer had a white one that was allocated to them and had a build date of 11-18. I added some accessories to it and CHANGED THE COLOR TO BLUE. I stopped at the dealer today to get an update on its location. The dealer said yes it was built on the 18th and we should have it on 12-5. I asked for a build sheet and he printed it out and said here you go, It is a 2016 Tacoma Limited in SUPER WHITE. I said no it should be blue. He checked the sale paperwork and said your right I better go tell him and got up to go see someone in the office. As he walked away he said this is not good. He came back and stated that they forgot to change the color to Blue. He said my options were to take the white one or order a new blue one. He also said that they would try to locate a blue allocated one and see if they could dealer trade the white one for it. The allocated ones are of course already sold. They ordered a new blue one that they expect won't be in until FEBRUARY!! I asked him what they were going to do for me as it will now take me FIVE months to get my new truck. He said that they would honor the original deal but don't believe they will do anymore more as they put to much money in my 2014 Limited that I am trading in and I obviously will still be driving the truck and putting more miles on it. What do you guys think of this? Do you think they should do something for me and if so what should they do for me?

Sounds like it's time to take your business elsewhere.

I'd like to go somewhere else but no one has that truck available and as it is I will basically be driving it for three more months for free. That is the only good part about this whole mess.

I would imagine the Limited are hard to find as many dealers don't order them. Mine was 2015 I was looking for in February and the closest was 350 miles away. I personally would take the white over blue, it will show less dirt and off roading scars

Just a bit of advice - go with what you really want and don't settle even if it takes a while to get it.

Good things come to those who wait.

Chances are its going to take that long to order from another dealer anyway. Either way you have to wait. Since they they screwed up I would try to get them to throw some accessories in for free or some oil changes. I definitely wouldn't take a color I didn't want though.

Sucks, but humans make mistakes. I'd be really nice and ask if they'd throw in a bedmat or bed extender or something for your trouble.

That's a tough one. I am not sure they owe you anything since the deal is not done; an unfortunate mistake on their part. Factors include whether you want to stay with this dealer, are there other dealers in your area; and whether you think those dealers can match your deal on your trade. Sounds like you really want the blue, so stay with that. In my case, I couldn't make up my mind between 3 colors. I went from thinking white, to ordering black, to agreeing to silver which turned out to be sold, to getting one on a dealer swap. In essence, I took the first available access cab; super white:) I wanted to stay with same dealer throughout because I had good experiences with them on two previous deals, and they gave me a fair deal on my expensive trade-in. Good luck from here on in.

Think of it this way, Toyota wants to sell you a truck, regardless. It's up to you which one you buy and where... I'd wait for what you actually want and not what's given to you, since you're paying for it, not Toyota.

Just wait for it, unless you find it somewhere else, just keep searching if you don't want to wait it out.

They're jerking you around! Let's say you wait, they get the truck. Someone else sees it and is willing to pay top dollar! What do you think they'll do? Probably give you more B.S. and sell it to the other guy. My question the color was it written down how could they have screw up? What's the penalty for them not coming up with the truck on that date? Last car I purchased, I went online to truecar.com put down what I wanted within a 110 miles, 9 dealerships replied within 5 days. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4OBN9Qilu8Y

The bad thing about dealer trades is your ass is not in the drivers seat for those 1st several hundred crucial miles, (or however far the dealer is away they are making the trade with) of breaking in the truck. They tell you, "Oh we have retired gentleman that drive for us and they drive it nice and easy." A salesman will tell you anything to ease your mind and make the sale.

Already got the trade-in figured out? Hell, you've got nothing to lose by waiting.

The car was already specced and he asked them to change the color. That's how. And what's the penalty if the truck arrives and he decides he doesn't like the color? Nothing. Go ahead and try TruCar on a 16 Tacoma, see what you get. BTW, TruCar requires access to a dealerships database of customer information, which they use and sell for marketing.

I do not want a dealer trade. The 2014 I have now was a dealer trade. It had 165 miles on it when I got it. It may not mean anything but I don't want someone else putting the first 100 miles on my new truck.
