image.jpg I couldn't find mounting hardware to mount my used eBay Yakima Blockheads. So I thought these 1/4" cone nuts from electrical department at Home Depot would work. To my dismay, they were a little too big. So, I pulled out the bench grinder. Perfect alternative to $20 per side hardware kit from Yakima! Guess I had to buy a head rail too....

Over60, I modified some mounting hardware and saved $40 vs buying hardware from Yakima. The 1/4" cone head nuts are on the bag in the picture, the ones on the left are ground down and provide a cheap mounting bracket. They are used to mount a bicycle by removing the front wheel so it fits in a short bed. Modern bikes have what is called a quick release and the wheel comes off in a few seconds without tools. Essentially these are quick releases mounted to the bed rail.

Splitbolt, those definitely look more functional and less time consuming then the cone nuts I thought would work, but also 3 times the cost. I should have read gen 2 forum! Thanks!

I need to pick up the head rail today. I have 2 Trek Project One bikes that I need to secure in my truck. Does the dealer carry the head rail? If not, where did you pick yours up at? Thanks and great install!!

Most dealers should but mine did not. I got tired of waiting and searched the Internets. I came across these dudes here:

    http://www.toyotapartznet.com/oe-toyota/pt27835100bh

They have a Black Friday promotion for 10% off. Enter code BF10. Total was $41.07 shipped.

All you need for install is a T-30 torx bit, preferably, on a socket or impact driver.
Holes are pre-drilled in the rail and mounts with existing screws.

Just went to the dealer and the parts guy said its not available for the 2016 Tacoma. He ordered the 2015 version to see if it will line up. What did you guys use for yours? I would order on line but I would like to have it before the weekend since I have to travel with my bike.

It's the 2015 version that everyone is using. The holes are already there in the bed along with the screws.

Just picked up my head rail and going around town to look and see if a few of my local shops carry the Rocky Mounts. Need two for the road bikes and at least one of the thru axle adaptors.

Just a heads up, it works the other way. The clutch SDs work with thru axles and come with an adapter for 9mm QRs.
