Okay, so it would involve changing crossmembers. Now we're getting somewhere.

Any input is going to be mostly educated guesses. TW members with regular cab 4x4's are relatively rare, and even rarer are those who own, or have owned, both 2TR and 1GR equipped trucks. Plus the 2TR is so darn reliable, no one has a reason to replace one :D

BTW, I have thought about this kind of swap on more than one occasion, I would absolutely love to see someone try it out. Considering the RC 4x4 curb weight of only 3,315 lbs, a little more added for the heavier V6 would still put it at a very nice power to weight ratio.

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks about this stuff. Every since I bought my truck I've been thinking about the idea of swapping a V8 from an 4Runner or Tundra. Never taken the step of actually figuring out what it would take, though.

There's a bracket out there to mount a Procharger to a 2UZ too..

It would be easy op, especially considering your previous swaps. It's the same truck. Just take the ecu and and use the wire harness from the v6 engine. Are the cross members really different? See if the bell housing from the v6 trans will fit on the 5speed if not I'm sure the 6speed will fall right in aswell.

That's kind of what I'm doing this for. I've had both a '33 Chevy coupe and a '48 Mercury coupe that were projects that I didn't have the time or space or money to complete. I'm a couple of years away from retirement and a project like this appeals to me. I had to rebuild the engines of the first 3 cars I drove, so I've got some experience with the basic mechanical issues. As I mentioned. I actually installed at Buick 3.8 V-6/turbo 200 into a 1976 Fiat 131, but in those days all you had to do was find a hot wire. These modern engines with computerized engine management systems are a limiting factor for me.

    I guess I could look/measure the crossmembers since I have a 2014 Reg Cab 4x4 and a 2015 DCSB 4x4 with the 4.0. When I get time, i'll check it out.
    Interesting thread!

The closest thing I've found was Total Chaos's Lil' T build. They put a 1GR-FE into a 2005 regular cab prerunner. Then again, they did a bunch of other shit to it that may not be of interest to you, and I couldn't find much description about the engine swap on the site.
