    Its not hard work but its not exactly the easiest thing either. Remove the head. Have to undo the rods so you can pull the piston out, remove existing rings and install new, the block could probably use a honing. The rod bearings should be good still so i dont think you would need to replace them. Them just reinstall.

    Lol, if it was cost effective I'd happily swap in a v6 now. Only reason I didn't want to before was for the warranty but at this point I'd be lucky if they would even cover my transmission

    True, forgot about those. Those tend to go out fairly often. Easy to replace too. Just requires a valve spring compressor and if your any good you can do it with the head on still. Have to reset cam timing though

    Just need to put air to the cylinder to hold up the valves.
    There is a couple of tests you can do to determine if the rings are bad or not, cylinder leak down test comes to mind.

    Even a compression test would be simple to test. If its a low number, add a teaspoon of oil in the cylinder and retest. If it goes up significantly then its the rings.

    I thought it was the valve guide seals at first. I have heard thats a doable job for someone with basic skills.

    The seals themselevs are easy, yes. But the work to get to them and properly putting everything back can be a bit intimidating. Timing chain, Cam timing, valve springs/retainers.

    I dont have much input Gage, but it seems like the dealer is definitely not on your side. I'm suddenly not feeling like jumping to 35's haha

    ~52k. It is not high miles and under warranty. They were all about the warranty until they saw the fender liner was missing. I looked, there is very little in the air box. Probably whatever I couldn't easily get out before I put in the custom liner. I argued with them for about 10 minutes about how the filter in place stops all the dirt/water. I got fed up with them and left.

    Itll be a fight if you take it to them, but i think youd win out.

    I had the same issue when my 4x4 actuator went out, they didnt even want to look at it and said it looked "offroad abused". Ended up replacing it myself.

    No, no. Its under warranty. Its burning oil. Lots of oil. And it is documented. There are no stipulations in that warranty. Toyota needs to fix it. Period.

    Your dealer is playing head games. Don't let them push you around. If they wont do it without qualification, I would talk with Toyota corporate about it. I would also find another dealer.

    Well, to use another dealer I would have to go through the same crap and drive 45 minutes at a minimum to drop it off. I dont really have that luxury :pout:
