2011 here with the exact same thing. Mine is headed in to the dealer Saturday for the Toyota sponsored catalytic converter replacement so I will mention it to them then.

Lol That was the last problem that Colorado had that Tacoma did not. Now fail is complete :)
Quality of Chevy and Toyota is now on par. :D

I may be able to pull a clip from my dash cam of the hood "buffeting". I have to finish some paperwork then I will check out some old footage.

I try not to stare at mine because I'd be staring at the rear view mirror instead of out front.......my hood is good, it's just that damn vinyl covered tri-fold tonneau cover on the bed. I called Toyota about it and they have been just as helpful with it as the dealerships have been with the 2016 hood issues y'all are having.

How is this not a safety issue? Is the skin of the hood what is bolted to hinges? Is the latch up front welded to the skin? Flying hoodskins could be issue for more than just the owner.

Just checked under my hood. Found 4 or 5 spots that had adhesive failure. Called the dealer and got an appointment this Friday. Tbh I have not noticed too much hood flex while drive and any that I happen to pay attention to I thought it was normal.

I could see this weakening the paint over time with enough flex.

I was driving my off-road (made in Texas) and noticed it too. Hood vibrates a lot in high wind. I have less than 100 miles on the truck. I'm glad I read this thread.

Just make sure you guys call Toyota so that this will get documented.

I told them about the two things I have that bug me on the truck. First was the JBL speakers making my driver side window controls rattle at low volume and second was this hood stuff.

Shitty part was is that the Toyota rep was more worried about the window control rattle rather than the hood...

Here are some pictures I took this morning under the hood.

    IMG_5308.jpg IMG_5311.jpg IMG_5310.jpg IMG_5309.jpg

I filed a case with Toyota. The representative seemed very helpful, but lets see what their permanent solution is. I was asked to take my truck to the dealer as well.

Looking further though, I'm wondering if the substance between the hood and hood frame is an adhesive or a dampening agent.

I agree with some people that the constant cyclic load caused by wind may potentially lead to clear coat or paint damage. I'm not entirely sure of this but it seems reasonable to think this. Either way, it doesn't look right while driving at highway speeds.

Yours is a lot worse than mine.

    Hmmm...
If you pushed down all your joints, think it would deform your hood? Conversely, shouldn't it be deformed from separation?
If it's a 'dampening agent', looks like they didn't use enough.

Took mine into the dealer service department this morning and they directed me to the paint and body shop on-site. I went over and met with the manager and he took pictures and is contacting Toyota today and took my contact info and will follow up as soon as he has instructions from Toyota. He said this is the first incident of this kind he has seen and it will get fixed ASAP.

I think the potential bigger issue is where else did they use this same adhesive? Are any other panels held together with this stuff? How about the sealant sprayed on the joints of the cab body panels? Same stuff? The more I browse this 2.5 Gen section the more I plan to keep my 2008 running until well passed Rapture.

How do I get Toyotas contact info? My dealership is far from being proactive when it comes to maintenance. My gen 2 had an air problem...oh let it get worse and we'll fix it. Take this n and they say let it ride for a while and see if Toyota comes down with something about it.

Every auto maker in the world uses adhesive on body panels somewhere. Lamborghini's Carbon fiber chassis on the aventador is entirely held together with adhesive.

Previous generation Tacomas had the same adhesive on their hood structural bracing as well, this is just the first time it's ever had an issue. So NOW all of a sudden Toyota is cheap?

My hood was vibrating pretty bad on the highway. Just took my Taco in for its 5k miles service. I mentioned the hood vibrating. They said they adjusted the "hood stays". Not sure what the hood stay is but it made a noticeable difference. My hood doesn't vibrate at all now.

Sounds fishy. They probably just moved the rubber bump- stops down. That's not going to solve the bad glue problem.
