Hey guys and gals, I've never really heard a noise like this coming from another vehicle before.. You'll hear it in the video. What's interesting is that the noise gets louder and quieter with the RPMs, but it's definitely coming from the steering?
It started last year, I took a sharp turn on pavement going a little fast and the noise came out of nowhere- and my steering wheel got some crAzy vibrations. I took it in and ended up getting a tierod end replaced, but that didn't fix the noise.. The power steering fluid is fine. Maybe this is semi-normal, but when I move the wheel back and forth it looks like the rack and pinion has about 1/2" of lateral play in it? I can see the bushings/entire assembly sliding side to side a little when I turn.. The noise isn't always there, but when I take a sharp left turn going over 15mph it
Usually starts right up again. I have a video, I'll post the link shortly.

Well at the least your bushings need replaced. Its pretty common at the age of our rigs nowadays. Get a set of energy suspension poly bushings and thatll take care of your movement. As for the whining, im not sure, sometimes guys get a bunch of gunk in the bottom of the pump reservoir and it cloggs the filter screen right there. Might check that??

I agree with bry838. Check that pump out. I've had a couple fords before. Older ones. I don't think any other make matches for power steering wine. lol
